100% due to Price.
If you look at the Daytona as an easy example, the dials etc are much much nicer on the PM versions. Also nothing beats the feeling of wearing PM. Steel just doesn't have that same feeling. If you have ever worn full PM you know exactly what I am talking about. |

There are some ppl that will admit its purely a price factor. It was for me several years ago as well. Simply put I could not afford a $30k+ Rolex let alone multiple of them.
I was in denial and always used to tell myself "nah SS watches are the best, in trend, blah blah blah" - in reality it was just price. Its that simple. |

I see the Rolex yuppie goggles are still around from the 80’s.
Why are so many looking at the watch as a barometer of your personal income??? That’s absurd and certainly not how a watch enthusiast would view a watch. Here is that old “Rolex baggage” that’s associated with this particular brand. I think “price” gets confused with “value assignment”. A lot of people simply don’t value a Rolex or any watch above $15k-$20k regardless of income. It’s more of a question of value system you have and what you assign what a luxury item is worth to you. I fall into this category where I just don’t feel ANY wristwatch is worth past a certain price point regardless of materials used. And yes I could easily drop $50k on a watch today and it wouldn’t be a blip in my lifestyle. I’ll spend a lot of money on other things cars, boats, vacations, etc... many would consider crazy so it’s a lifestyle value system for many luxury watch owners on the watch material selection. |

The notion that it is purely driven by price, in my opinion, is off. For some, I think it is, but with a number of people paying near PM for stainless in the secondary market, I don’t think price is the main factor for many.

We live in a fast era, a sport era. Hence why sport watches are popular. When feeling slow and cool will come back, you'll see two tone back.

I just looked, Gold is currently $602/oz MORE expensive than Platinum... $1566 to $964. The significant premium between gold and platinum Rolexes is getting more difficult to justify.

My mechanic doesn’t use a golden wrench on my car... of course our watches are no longer tools, but the line ancestors that shakes their myth were... and they were made of steel.

Because SS is a better material for watches, in terms of price, durability and comfort. Yes, a lighter watch is more comfortable to wear than a heavier one.
