We should not forget that to the masses “people not into horological” Rolex is the Ferrari or Rolls Royce of watches.
Rolex is the only watch brand that managed to become synonym of perfection and precision. How many times have we heard or read about a machine or an instrument to be “as perfect or as accurate as a Rolex”? Zillion times. We don’t hear that same analogy about Patek, AP or omega.

Richard Mille is definitely a British car - overpriced, loaded with gadgets, and you will cry when you get the repair bill.

A Ferarri? A Porsche? An Astin Martin? What world do you people live in?

NONE of the German cars or European cars have reasonable maintenance. I admit some of the older models had somewhat reasonable maintenance if you were best friends with a mechanic and knew how to get cheap european parts. But even the newer models are POS if you ask me because you can't even diagnose now without a computer.

The only cars that come close is LEXUS but they don't have quite the history and panache that the German brands have.

The maintenance on my GT3 was basic and reasonable. Oil changes and brake pads. Ran like a champ. Just like Rolex.

Porsche is not remotely like Ferrari, Lambo, McLaren, etc when it comes to maintenance.

I don't like the Lexus comparison because I don't know anyone under the age of 50 that covets a Lexus. I don't want to piss anyone off. My dad drives a Lexus. But Dear God they make the most boring cars. I get it if you just want a reliable mode of transportation. But zero sex appeal. If you're comparing Rolex to Lexus, you're saying Rolex are boring, reliable watches.

I'm going with Lexus.

Extremely reliable. Also Rolex could be considered the luxury version with Tudor having similar models that are reliable and more affordable just like Toyota.

In terms of aesthetics Porsche is a good fit... however when I think of Porsche, I think "nice looking, but will leak oil in 5 years."

Probably Lexus. Ubiquitous and sorta generic, but utterly reliable and always attractive.

What Lexus lacks that Rolex has is the heritage, but I think you can say Toyota has the heritage which Lexus can borrow for the purposes of our discussion.

Tag is like a KIA. Where does A Lange fall in your matrix? Or Vacheron. Or Richard Mille. Bentley. Rolls Royce territory.

Definitely a Honda/Toyota. Highly dependable, great daily, not flashy, but kinda boring. Porsches are never boring so can't really be compared to Rolex, except maybe DD or Platona.

Maybe the older M's. My buddy has newer M5 and if it leaves them stranded one more time his wife is going to make him sell it.

You nailed it.

I'm shocked at the absence of what to me is the obvious answer:

Cadillac.

The brand's reputation for being an aspirational product is such that the vernacular for the best of any given thing is "the Cadillac of _____". However, while the quality is undeniably high and the cost is prohibitive for most people, the products are mass produced and quite affordable compared to the high end low production luxury automakers (Bentley, etc.).
