Good to see people abiding by the terms of the preview. Next time it just means no previews for anyone.

The only way to not have a leak is to tell no one.

Professionally, we've dealt with product launch leaks for decades. We still fight it, but only to reduce it, not to eliminate. In fact, we often write internal announcements expecting they will be leaked, so we write them carefully as a result.

Anyone who shares with anyone outside a small circle (or internal employees) is delusional if they think they can prevent a leak.

I’ve refrained from commenting on this thread and I also recognise that I am not a frequent poster however I find this rather distasteful that people, who presumably, have been selected to see the piece and asked to not disclose any details then do so.

Sadly the way of the world now...

I don't like it.

But, it's not the way of the world now. Leaks have been with us for at least two decades. It's just easier for information to travel these days due to the internet. But leaks always existed.

Information always gets shared, friend of a friend talks, employees talk. Stop living in la la land.

Besides, who cares if its been shared a week earlier. It does not change the fact all of them been sold out / allocated.

Yup.

I have to admit, it's hard to get excited about new releases in the watch industry these days (like the past 3 or 4 years) given that things are all pre-sold and allocated prior to announcement.

Price for this concept will tank anyway. Most concept watches are 30% below msrp. I just don't see how this limited one will be any better.

Yeah, honestly, I wish this was a ROO Chrono like many of their other collabs.

Missed opportunity, I have to admit.

I do love the Concepts... But, most of them don't fit on my wrist (and I love huge watches, but these go way beyond).

100% agree with you. Besides, imo most people who can afford 100k plus watch are not into having marvel hero on it.

Agreed. It should of been ROO or even RO priced at $30-50k and being limited to 250-400 pieces. Pricing it at 160-200k narrows the audience a lot.

Indeed. On my 35k watches, maybe. Not on a 150k watch.

No it wont. If we are to believe that these have been pre-sold already, I think these trade at least 2x retail, Richard Mille style

There are things pre-sell to loyalists and then drop in price on the secondary market (it implies only that number of loyalists saw the value in it, and no one else).

If buying a concept results in getting some special watches in return, I will of course buy it.

Dislike to say this but concept and code really fall into the same category. People only buy it if they can bundle with something.

Spot on! Even loyalists will have a hesitation.

I have many big Rolex, Patek, AP collector buddies. When the topic of marvel piece was brought up 2 weeks ago, most said they would pass on it and those that liked the idea said max they would pay 30-40k.

Indeed. Bundled with couple of special ROs, that would be an easier pill to swallow.

I'm still scratching my head on the move with Marvel. Feels a bit "trying too hard" can't put my finger on it.

I’m disappointed, however only because I can’t justify a £150,000 watch, and i wouldn’t even get offered the chance

Personally I'm all for the speculation and the intrigue. AP and brands in general rely on such as part of their product promotion, leaks are deliberate, or calculated. Nevertheless there is a difference between breaking a confidence and 'teasing'.

Here's what we think we now know:

42mm Concept
Black Panther as the Marvel theme
Claws feature prominently
Black and Purple colour scheme
$150-200k price point
250 limited edition
All pre-sold
Formal release Saturday 10th
Listed on Chrono24 Sunday 11th

------

So, this thread is over, we now know everything...I'll start a new topic:

"The second MARVEL/AP Superhero is?"

and we can carry on there

In all seriousness, speculation is GOOD, cheating on a crossword puzzle not so much.

Maybe you are right.

But keep in mind that 250 is a small number even for a watch retailing in the range of 150-200k. Think of Jay-Z, Kevin Hart, the Rock, other celebrities and a good number of NBA players would be enough to sell this model out. Keep in mind, Black Panther is an iconic character that represents more than just a superhero.

We will see, but i think this easily trades 2x retail.

If this is indeed the case I think we can all pinpoint the exact date Captain America was switched for BP.

I'm not sure a massive billboard in the middle of the major highway in an affluent Middle-East tourist hotspot counts as being subtle.

It's clearly part of their hype-machine and they clearly wan't people to know its a black panther collaboration.

I do have to say I'm not a fan of this move by AP, it feels very Panerai - milk the market for what it's worth at any cost. It's clear AP's moving towards the 'fun' part of the market.

I hope it works out for them but this direction feels like it'll erode the brand prestige in the long term. I sense a bifurcation in the traditional Swiss big three.

Now that the Cat is out of the bag, so to speak...

AP is the master of misinformation, and the subtle clues that have been disseminated to the masses via highly credible mediums such as the internet, were all a big bluff...

The actual Marvel release on Saturday, at much expensive and huge R&D is:
