Ladies’ sized (29mm) Yachtmaster purchased new in 2/01, worn daily for 20 years (my avatar).
I know the original SS/Yachtmaster wasn’t a hit. Also, the ladies’ size has been discontinued. In 20 years (and in Los Angeles, no less) I haven’t seen another woman wear any ladies’ Yachtmaster. My “new” Rolex is a slightly used 16200, 36mm DJ with a silver dial, Romans, with a smooth bezel on a SS Oyster. I like the larger size (although it’s a bit too big for my dainty wrists) and that the Oyster doesn’t have PCL. It flies under the radar because it lacks the classic elements of a DJ, eg fluted bezel or a Jubilee. The silver dial with the WG Romans really pops, though. Clearly I have a thing for monochromatic silver-toned watches. Plus I passed on a Daytona at the Wynn in Vegas a few years ago! (TT; can’t remember the dial…tempted but I knew it was someone’s Grail.) |

I'll play
Both my DSSDs are the old ones and that's where I draw the line in the sand for Rolex as I'm done with the exception of only a possible Shydweller if they ever make one of the two combinations I'm looking for in the future. The rest of my watch collection is reasonably diverse across brands these days with an emerging focus on old school technology and nothing new fangled and heavily marketed in any way. I can say that I am completely turned off by anything that doesn't bring tangible benefits to me |

No actually, I have decided that incoming and my collection type of threads without an interesting background are stupid and vacuous. I did however make the mistake of making just such a post at some point before reaching that decision so you may look for it if you’re so inclined. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

my most worn watch is a z-blue milgauss. It has it's fans but is decidedly not among the hyped Rolexes. And I wear a shinola probably 2nd most.

Many years ago, bought a Sub- sold it quickly afterwards as I was underwhelmed...Re bought another because the internets said " no collection is complete...." sold that too.
Kept most of my IWC, Blancpain, Panerai, Omega & Seiko watches. Have list of other watches I want, (none of them AP's or PP's), before any current Rolex, were they available to buy. Have one Rolex 216570 now, which I like a lot, due to it's larger size, brushed finish and absence of blingy bezel.

he said those threads without an interesting story were stupid and vacuous. I'd rather read those with some background or context too.

Not every watch incoming has a story, some people just want to share their new watch acquisition on a watch forum and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

What is interesting to me is likely irrelevant to everyone else on a forum of strangers , as what interests other people is irrelevant to me. A collection without any story is simply a collection of watches which makes it uninteresting to me because I too have a collection of watches without an interesting background as to how it came about. You clearly find it interesting, so you do you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Of course, mine don’t have much of one either. People who love to look at the collections of others without being interested in the story of how it came to be or some other such detail, go right ahead. I just find therm vacuous and don’t look at them. There are enough people sharing pictures of their watches that look exactly the same on the internet. I do make an exception for the BB58 because I’m sentimentally attached to the reference. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Recently traded my last Rolex for an ALS Saxonia Thin.
It won’t appreciate and be easy to sell like all the stainless steel sports Rolex models I’ve owned in the last few years but rather than being a mass produced “king of the high street “ brand it is a top tier piece of hand finished high horology, quality over hype for me! |

What you said is fair. For me it’s about capturing the beauty of watches through photography and sharing a personally captured version of the aspects of your watches you find beautiful. A good story is a bonus. Following your definition of what is and isn’t vacuous, at least half my collection would not be worthy of a post. |

Well I would say my Panerai and 12 year old Omega Seamaster show anti-hype.
Outside of that i would say my join date also proves I was interested in watches looooong before hype was a thing. Does turning down a Jubilee BLNR at my AD last week count? AD: "Would you like this BLNR instead of the Pepsi?" Me: "Thanks but no thanks, the Pepsi has my heart" AD: "But this is extremely popular" Me: "I know, believe me, but I want to buy a watch that I love and want to keep, not try for a bit, then sell for a profit" AD: "Fair enough, I understand. Good point"

I dislike stainless steel Daytonas - I find the asymmetric case quite unappealing I bought an SD43 I also bought a BB58 Blue which is worth less now than I paid for it (which I was aware of at the time) My favourite watch is a Chopard Mille Miglia Chronograph I have multiple G Shocks

Much like the OP I've never really liked, or tried to buy, a Daytona.
A few months ago I turned down a 126710BLRO from my AD. I've literally just sold my (hopefully newly fixed) SD43, despite 99% of owners saying it's too good to sell. |

I have personalised Rolexes using 100% original Rolex parts.
Eg. My 16610 has a dial with my name laser etched in red on. The second hand is painted red, the datewheel is a red one from a turnograph 116264 which uses the same cal3135. |

Out of the twenty plus high quality watches I have ever bought, 90% of them were before 2017 when the hype here really took off. Oh, and that I called my AD about the CE Daytona three days after it was revealed, not within 3 minutes.

Well done I am similar. I totaly dont care a damn for the new sports models. No hulks, no batmen, no new pepsis. But tons of full gold and 5 digit and vintage stuff. But i only have Rolexes and vintage Tudors, 1 omega. no pateks, APs, PAms etc…. |

- Tried on a Hulk at the AD back in 2016 and preferred the black Sub instead.
- In 2017, my AD laid all rhodium, blue and white DJ41 in front of me. I picked the white since it complimented my Sub alot better - YM Two Tone - This is currently my go to. Absolutely love it. - A Two Tone champagne Daytona may be on the books next. I don't sit around doing loads of research of whats hot and not. I simply browse TRF or IG occasionally and see a random watch picture and if it looks good, I will go think about it, and then try it on if I can and then get it. I have a BLRO which I also love so hopefully this hasnt voided what I said above :) |
