Most of the hate comes from two sources, those who hate the cyclops, and those with smaller wrists who hate that they made the Sea Dweller too big for them to wear. To the rest of us who found the Sub a little small and lacking in wrist presence it was practically a dream come true.

This I agree with, that is why, IMO the Sea Dweller died with the cyclops being added.
The new SD with a cyclops will appeal to the sub crowd.

It appeals to everything in me that associates a cyclops to classic Rolex but in proportions and engineering that fit for me.

The naysayers are usually the ones with smaller wrists, or have one and not the other.

It's my favorite.

The SD43 when worn properly “snug and above wrist bone” it wears as flat and low as a sub “almost” same goes for it’s center of gravity. This caseback design is responsible of making the watch looks slimmer, wears lower and steadier on the wrist. It is an ingenious feast of design.

100% This ^

I own both 126600 and 116600. Both are extremely comfortable for me (7.5 inch wrist). I have the diver extensions removed. The SD43 could be worn daily, no issues whatsoever with the comfort when worn properly.

The SD43 is an amazing technical diver, great overall package, it puts the Submariner to shame. It has the wrist presence that I love, I wear it much more than my 5 and digit Submariners.

The red text on the dial and the matte dial finish, the fully graduated bezel, the great proportions are part of the package. The fact that it is the 50th anniversary model, I made sure mine is MkI, makes it truly special.

Also fan of Panerai ;)

Small detail, but i found it important to acquire a MK1, as well. Time will tell if other people care or not, but it makes it a little more special to me at least.

Just not seeing the hate either. It seems that most TRF'ers have been absolutely ecstatic over this watch throughout the last 5 years. 100% happy with mine. Acquired this beauty in Oct 2017 from my AD.

Fantastic watch, bought mine 2017 and the cyclops doesn’t bother me at all.

Terrible watch, too big, too thick, uncomfortable, pointless, tries to beat the Sub yet fails miserably. Bound to be discontinued any minute now.

Only joking. My favourite Rolex and arguably the best modern diver across all brands. The perfect size and proportions. Beautiful watch. All you need is 7in/18cm flat wrists or more. For the rest the Sub is a solid choice.

Definitely a great watch for those with a flat wide wrist.

About halfway through your first paragraph I was thinking, damn, I'm not even gonna reply to this dude, I'm just gonna sit back and watch the frenzy for the rest of the evening.

... Well, there goes my entertainment

SD43’s most overlooked feature is the dial. It looks sssso good in direct sun and changes in low light. Has a nice weight and looks bad ass.

It's not the 43mm size for me...it's the lug to lug that's just a bit too large for me. I've flirted with it several times and I absolutely love it. Perhaps one day I'll pull the trigger. I tried on a 43.5mm Planet Ocean the other day with a more manageable 49mm lug-to-lug and absolutely loved it.

It's pics like this that will force my hand and get one. Fantastic pic of an amazingly cool watch. Love the fully graduated bezel.

I don't hear too much "hate". Just the normal cyclops / 43mm blah blah... With all this intermittent fasting and other diet crazes... seems like men just aren't as manly anymore and therefore can't wear such a substantial piece without complaining its too heavy or big.

The size is perfect for me and I really like the fact it’s not as ubiquitous as Submariners .

I like the combination of heft, presence, graduated bezel, matte dial, and red text. I'm not a purist by any stretch, and I actually like the cyclops. Just a combination of things that make this way more intriguing to me than a sub though it's nuanced.
The SD43 measures larger than the DSSD end link to end link FWIW

Gen 1 DSSD measured 55.6 mm end link to end link
Gen 2 DSSD measures 53.3 mm end link to end link.

The SD43 measures 53.7 mm end link to end link, slightly larger than the new Dblue.

what i like about SD43 is the size
the dial seems bigger than the DSSD since the DSSD have that "extended rehaut"
and also the bracelet is wider than those in the submariner
making it looked more manly IMHO.

You mean this watch (126603) with
L = Lunette (Bezel) and
B = Bleu (Blue)
Right?

I love the Sea-Dweller but not a 126603LB.
Already the LN is not my "taste".
I prefer and own the 126600 and 16600.

Wow! That makes a lot of sense. I've tried them both on and somehow thought the SD was too big but not the DSSD. I'm beginning to think lug-to-lug measurement is more important.

I don’t hate it. It’s just not on my radar because I weigh 150 lbs. A submariner looks right on me. If I were a bigger guy I might look at this watch.
