It comes down to what you're used to ... and what you prefer. The 36mm looks a bit smaller if you're using a full length mirror or at a distance. But is a classic proportion. It's perhaps a dressier size but could safely be worn as a casual with the smooth bezel/white dial combination.

You didn't like the oyster bracelet (the one pictured)?

Either way ; your brain will get used to whatever size you pick. Try not to overthink it. If you have a partner, also value what he/she thinks. Mine picked the DJ36 over the DJ41 (but doesn't know I have both!)
Sorry, the jubilee bracelet was a mistake typing, I meant the Oyster bracelet is my preference.

I agree that the 36mm is 'dressier' and that's my concern.

I'm trying to find another white dial 41mm for my wife to see, but even in central London, this is proving impossible

Which did you prefer out of the 36mm/41mm (I guess it depends what size wrist you have...?).

When Rolex specify 36mm/41mm do they mean the width of the dial itself or the whole watch face including the bezel?
With the Datejust, the lugs are going to be polished as well though, so you may end up regretting your aftermarket brushing of the center links, as it really hurts the visual balance of the watch. Took me a while to adjust to the polished center links too way back in 2012 when I got my first GMT that had them, but to be honest, I would not want the watch any other way today. Plus, they get pretty scuffed up over time, so they get more subdued after a while.

As to the size references with Rolex, don’t take them at their word. The numbers rarely match the measurements. E.g. both the OP41 and the DJ41 have cases measuring something like 39.5mm from 10-4 (measurement of the outer case, the dials themselves are much smaller.

I can't contribute much more about which Rolex to buy, but whatever you do, DON'T sell that Omega!!! You'll regret it. It's a great watch, and will make an excellent two watch combo with a Datejust.

Thanks, interesting to know about the case size - do you know what size the OP39 actually was from 10-4?

I would only get a DJ brushed if they could brush the case as well, I think you're totally right that just the bracelet would not look right.

I know what you mean, but sadly I would have to do so to fund the Rolex, their prices being what they are right now. I might have had a chance to keep it if they had a white OP at the new Rolex price, but...

Steel Daily Wearer - Advice Needed

I suggest leaving the case alone. A lot of thought goes into the design. And the overall balance of polished vs. brushed. I don’t think a datejust would look the same (nor as nice) brushed all over.

It will develop its own well brushed worn look over time. (You should see how well worn is my Sub)

Don’t overthink it. Nor the dressier bit. The man maketh the watch. Not the other way around. You can wear a dressy fluted jubilee with t-shirt, jeans and Birkenstock’s.

I also concur a 20 year old seamaster… other then hopefully it’s been serviced - is worth keeping.

I wouldn’t trade a seamaster for a DJ. They’re two different watches.

Shame about the availability of the OP. With the 3230 movement the OP36/41 are great value at retail. No white dial in the current line up though. May change, never know.

It had occurred to me to wait and see if they reintroduce a white dial OP (albeit in 41mm), really like the style of the OP and the retail price is more in my ballpark.

I can't buy straight away in any case re: having to sell the Seamaster, so I could wait a bit longer - I'm not in a mad rush as the idea of this would be to keep long-term. OTOH, if a white dial OP reappeared at retail price, I might be able to keep both watches, which I agree would be preferable.

How long do Rolex usually go between changing the colour selections on the OP faces?

I know what you mean, and of course you're right - I seem to recall Harrison Ford strapping a white DJ/fluted/jubilee for most of the 80s, suited or cowboy booted, but I remember that combo being the look of the 80s (in fact I recall it being steel/gold combo).

That said, it was something about the combination of the more 'sporty'/understated brushed look of the white OP on a Oyster bracelet/smooth bezel which originally drew me personally to the watch. OTOH, I do quite like having a date on a watch (not a deal-breaker, but I'm used to it) and the DJ is available new in the right colour, so if I had to brush it I think I'd be OK with that. I understand it's easily reversible by a good Rolex service centre anyway.

P.S. nice watch - I think the blue looks great with fluted/jubilee.
