I think it goes the other way. Rolex is getting ready to double down on Cellini with more models and complications.

Really like the Cellini line. The latest variants have really hit on a great case design going forward.

That makes no sense. In Florida, alligator hunting season begins August 15, and ends November 1. There are over a million alligators down here. Louisiana has more alligators than Florida.

Cellini to be banished from the U.S.

I think the word “banished” is rather funny. Not “Rolex has discontinued the Cellini” but … BANISHED!

I've long thought that Rolex needs to take a page out of the Genesis/Lexus/Infiniti book to compete with the "big three" on PM dress watches. Start over, with a new brand as opposed to trying to bring the current brand upmarket. Perhaps it'll just come back as "Cellini" one day.

I highly doubt that strap type has anything to do with it, but it would be around importation of exotic skins. Easy enough to work around by producing straps here, then sending to Geneva, then sending the watches back with domestic gator straps.

I actually like the Cellini line if I ignore the movement finishing. The retail prices are 25% too high but I've actually considered the moonphase version. If Rolex discontinues the Cellini line in the US, it's because they're not selling well and not because of the alligator straps. Like pythons, alligators are an invasive pest, not an endangered species, but we've been living in an upside down world for decades and it's only accelerating.

I think they are just a victim of their own marketing success.

for decades they've been saying that you can wear their sports watches in parties.
"a sub looks just as good in a tuxedo as in a wetsuit."

and datejust and day-dates are pretty much considered as dress watches.

cellini's are stuck in an awkward place.
