This, just buying the hot watches is zero benefit to an AD. They can sell the hot watches to anyone. It's the inventory which doesn't move fast which needs to be sold.

My experience in every store I’ve been in has been such a turn off.
I don’t even care anymore. Im just going to go after the watch I actually want on the grey market. Screw trying to get in someone’s good graces just to have the opportunity to be put on a three year wait list if they deem you worthy enough. Just buy the watch you want and move on. It’s going to go up in value over the years regardless. You’re just not going to get the 100% jump out the door. |

I am coming to the conclusion that as a buyer of Rolex I would be better off if the Rolex AD was a single brand standalone AD. My AD lost their Rolex franchise as of yesterday. I reached out to a new AD through one of their top clients who is a VIP client via through their ongoing purchase of another top watch brand in their franchise. I had a nice introductory meeting, but told if I bought jewelry (we have a 20+ year relationship with our jeweler) or this other top tier watch manufacturer, I would improve my Rolex chances. At the end of the day, I would be better off if my Rolex purchases were through a standalone AD (al la AP’s business model). All this stapling is inefficient in my eyes.

I love discussions like this, and while I imagine all this is 99.9% accurate (I’m waiting on a freaking OP41, so I know it’s true). It makes me feel all the more lucky I walked into an AD in a very large city and walked out with a Sub, in March of 2021…with no history.

I spent around 500k for all watches last year. Got one nautilus 5711R and one aquanaut 5968A. My spending grow exponentially, only spent few thousand at the beginning, then 20k,80k, 150k,and 200k. Now I spend around 150k-200k per month,Since the relation goes well. My AD will give me hints on what’s going to come and I can pick in advance.

I'm a VIP client the minute I walk in the door. And I have no spending history. Never cut yourself short.

I used to think I was a decent spender. 2 watches per year and some jewelry. Definitely not a window shopper by any stretch. The store owner belongs to the same golf club we do. I ended up playing with him this summer thru my neighbor (his friend). There are people in this world that have bottomless pockets. They walk in spend $125k without flinching, then come back 2-3 more times that week and spend another $100k. This process repeats until said customer gets everything they want then start doing the same thing with cars, guns, or antiques.
I am sure some folks on this board are at that level, especially some of the athletes and actors. I am no where close to that and just to hear the stories made me realize how small my little corner of the world is. |

The hard part is convincing the staff at the AD you are a VIP client. If it wasn’t hard to do that we would all be hearing that lovely sound of the safe opening |
