Let’s say a stranger damages your Rolex.
My wife smacked my Rolex with the engagement ring a while back. I told her to cough up the cash for repairs. She threatens me by saying I will be sleeping in the dog house. I put my foot down and tell her I’m the man of the house.
The dog house now has foam insulation, proper ventilation, and a cushion. Anyway. If it happens while it’s on my wrist, I personally don’t pursue anything. Shit happens. |

Just killed a man (for the damage - that’ll learn them!)

Oh dear, I'm devastated…and all over a peripheral issue to the main topic at hand. Sad that such an important member on the forum had nothing to say about my excellent comments about risk acceptance and aversion.

My takeaway from this thread is that if a stranger damages my watch the only sensible response is to start singing Bohemian Rhapsody

I would think that if you asked the passenger for compensation, you would end up looking like an utter bell end to everyone on that aircraft.

The Bohemian Rhapsody joke is wearing a little thin now, I really don’t think there is any need for them to carry on carry on. This was a serious question posed by the OP but it is now being treated as if nothing really matters!

My wife and I sat across from a couple that fits this EXACT description. Now I’m not one to travel in a three piece suit, and I definitely dress casual but really, it’s gotten nuts, anything goes I guess. To expand, the “lady” we sat across from, went to use the washroom in her bare feet. I’ll let that sink in …. |

Hunter S. Thompson approach
Bashed him away with a shot in the cheekbone with the edge of my stainless steel Rolex and we rolled off towards the Alvarado Freeway. The late great Dr. Hunter S. Thompson...Gonzo lives!!

Let’s say a stranger damages your Rolex.
OP: you pull out your phone, start recording video, yell “worldstar”, and start an altercation. Even if it doesn’t fix your damaged watch, your video may go viral, and you will increase your street cred (others will respect your space) moving forward.
With a username like “WatchYoSelf” I figured this might be your preferred solution. |

In my mind it's a perfectly legitimate question to ask. Watches are small, but not insignificant in value. My car is worth a lot of money. If someone hits my car, I'm going to go through all of the proper protocols to file an insurance claim. I would assume that an expensive item is no different. I'd assume this would fall under property damage and there are avenues to recover the damages to property. I just don't know what the proper protocols would be to do so. Personally, I have my watches insured so that I have a means of damage recovery in the case that someone else damages it. However I'd be interested in learning what other options are out there.

Thanks for this post. I simply was seeking a discussion about a scenario in which a stranger damages your watch. I never insinuated I’d sue or not take responsibility. However, so many people on here have jumped to conclusions and essentially online bullied me haha. Surprised there’s this much anger and hate on a forum about watches. If you are worried get insurance.
If it’s keeping you up at night get a Timex. |

I normally don't suggest insurance as a solution to most things, but I think this is the correct advice in this case. I'm sure like most, OP has uninsured motorist/hit and run insurance on his car for a few bucks a month; might as well get the watch insured if this kind of thing is something you're worried about.
