My most recent (2022) bought from DavidSW, after being told by my AD it could take up to a year for a DD.

Yes. Being registered in 2017 you were supposed to already know that ADs will only sell to whale VIPs while nosy and ignorant plebs on a low teen (or a should I say 4 digit?) budget get laughed out the door. How dare they disturb their empty display case wiping routine anyway?
Besides, if you could truly afford such an exclusive luxury item you would have had no problem whatsoever paying 4xmsrp on the 2ndary market (a sum which in any case should not exceed 1% or less of your net worth btw) instead of putting up with snobbery. Then come over here and explain to noobs how prices will keep climbing ad infinitum. Anything I'm missing?

Seriously though, try different ADs. A Dj36 is by no means an overhyped reference and should be fairly easy to obtain within days or weeks. Like any business, there are good ones and not so good ones out there. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to find the right AD to help you attain your desired piece. Good luck.

Over the years I’ve purchased a Milgauss, Batman, lady datejust (for the missus) and the latest being an explorer 1 from the same AD.
I didnt think could get the explorer from AD and was ready to go grey, but my AD surprised me and called right before I pulled the trigger.

Totally agree. I WANT to like the Daytona, and I do in many ways, but when I put one on, I just can't read it quickly. I'm almost that way with the date. Thank god for the cyclops. lol.

To answer the OP, I have three now. Two bought AD, one was a graduation gift many years ago. I'd only buy AD unless below msrp. I also don't NEED a watch that bad to over pay IMO.

I'd like a Daytona someday but if I don't get one at an AD, then I'll survive just fine without owning one. Same with a number of SS Sports references. I've been fortunate to get a couple, but if I don't get anymore it'll be ok (it's just a watch after all).

I'm happy (and sometimes jealous) for those who are able to buy anything they want from whomever they want at whatever price they want, but I learned a long time ago that's not me.
