Its a watch to be worn but if you looking at it as a profit item like its starting to be....

back in the day, people bought these beautiful items to wear. paying lots of money for them...again to wear...and when the time came where they no longer wanted it or times were hard, they had to sell it, you never got back what you paid, you took a loss...or maybe you broke even or made a little money....now people buy a Rolex for profit, investment....like you...sad....if you question what your doing....then dont...

Why is it sad to maybe make some money while enjoying a hobby?

Bunch of Puritans in this group!

Look...here's a solution...for those against profits, when it's time to move on to different watch, just REFUSE any offer above what you originally paid. "Oh, you'd like to buy my Daytona? Only if you give me no more than $4,000."

If the price is going to drop in the future. Will you still buy it? Will you wear it? The price is going to drop on the first scratch.

If you’re going to wear and enjoy the watch none of this matters.

Otherwise someone else deserves it more.

What he’s trying to say is that traditionally, people bought a particular watch because they liked it, and if they ever decide to move it on eventually, the price becomes secondary.

However, people today buy with the notion of profiting on the resale, and whether they like it or not becomes secondary, as either way they do not lose - and that to me is the sad bit.

Rolex AD at Wynn refers to them as half gold and full gold. First time I heard two tone was on here.

Here’s the deal, maybe in a year or two, possibly, you could get a two-tone sub from the 90s or 80s for under retail. But you’re not gonna be able to get a 41 mm two tone for under retail in the next few years. If you really like this specific watch, get it

You might not be able to buy one under retail, but you also might not be able to easily/quickly sell one for over retail - hence the spirited discussion in this thread!

In the end, who knows. If resale is a deciding factor, then it's probably not a good decision, but if it's "I just don't want to lose too much", then go for it!

brand new from AD and if its 'the one' you want just go for it assuming a 20% loss if you ever had to sell as used, then if the day comes you do sell I am sure you will be fine ...

no intention of selling our watches but we assume the above model if we ever did need to !

So many of you commenting obviously didn't read the actual post.

He literally said, in the first sentence, that they can buy it at retail price...

There is no way that ANY new Rolex watch from an AD will be offered under retail for the foreseeable future, let alone a 126613LB that is still selling for 50% above retail on the grey market at the moment.

thanks again for the many inputs. will be getting it then.

I am just curious as to why so many people take offense at my question. It's a forum and the question is legit. I thought this is the purpose of having a forum. Maybe admin should state the few questions that people are allowed to ask without offending others.

Ultimately, buying the watch and entering into this hobby is a personal choice. So I am not sure why one person has to decide that the other person should not be in this hobby for any other reason other than the same one he has?

Other than that, I really enjoyed the various response I get from the name that we gave to these watches.

Don't take offence, we're just a sensitive bunch haha. But the reason is that we don't like Flippers. We think they are the reason we can't get the watch we want. So when anyone ask about watch as an investment or even about retained value, as is your case, people's red flags goes up. I'm similar to your thinking, I want to buy a watch to enjoy, but given such a large sum of money, if push comes to shove, I want to know I can liquidate it to pay rent so to speak.
