Another Rolex stolen in London this week, almost foiled by an elderly woman wielding a walking stick.

A grudge between someone with a 3M car and a guy on a scooter? Maybe if this occurred in Naples Florida and the scooter was a rascal

There are criminal gangs everywhere, and as others on the thread have said, there is a contingent of Gulf Arabs who descend on London every year with the sole intention of showing off. Bugattis, Lambos, Ferraris, pimped G-Wagons... all they do all day is drive around Central and West London from Selfridges to Harrods doing burn-outs and being bell-ends, desperately trying to garner attention. OF COURSE they're going to get robbed. They'd get robbed anywhere, they're such wilful easy targets.

I live in London. I walk, drive, take the tube, cycle, all while wearing Rolex, Omega, Patek, Czapek, AP, Grand Seiko and Lange. And you know what? I'm not alone. Ride the tube every day and you'll see more 5711s headed to Moorgate or Liverpool St. than you'd see in a Hong Kong grey's window.

This is a city of nearly 10m people. Don't extrapolate from the idiot tourist in the Chiron.

To be fair, that's all this crowd does in their home countries.

My wife's niece's in-laws are there. Time for an extended family vacation visit.

When is our hotel opening?

[QUOTE=Blansky;12338985]Of course it's bad. Of course it needs addressing by police/politicians. It's sucks.

But the economy for many sucks as well. A lot of people lost jobs during covid, and we are just going to start experiencing mass migrations from climate displacement of people.

But people wringing their hands at something that happened in LA or NY or Paris etc etc. These are areas with massive populations and you hear about some crime and it's all over anti-social media and breathless news shows and the sky is falling.

Millions of people went about their lives with NO incidents in London, LA NY and Paris. You just heard about the unfortunate few who did have an incident.

I remember back in the 1980s and some kid got abducted in some city. And the mass media covered it and pretty soon you got a generation of helicopter parents driving their kids to school every day.

There have always been muggings in big cities for your wallet or your watch. It's just now that some criminals realized through watch sites/social media that people are walking around with thousand of dollars on their wrist. And in some areas that people want to flaunt their good fortune is easy pickings. So we now have to be more diligent.

A number of years ago there were a ton of car jackings until a few people got killed or hurt. That became a financial concern for tourism and the politicians and police started to deal with it. Now you rarely hear of car jackings.[/QUOTE

Nothing excuses crime. People have a right to be safe in their person and possessions in public.

Have to agree, if you're not showing off or making yourself very visible then you will be fine in London, I was in a fancy restaurant in St James the other day for lunch and made eye contact with guy wearing a Patek 5164, I have one too and was about to say something but decided against it, a few years ago I probably would have but now I feel just keep it all under the radar.
