I am told to expect a 3 year wait and of course they want 30% non refundable. They state allocation time was randomized which is hard to believe but I have no proof to the contrary.

I also faired poorly in the draw. Anyone get anything sooner?

Have you decided to move forward? I am leaning towards yes but part of me says this isn't that special a watch that 3 years with a non refundable deposit is justified. hmm

I find the random allocation aspect very odd but there’s never been any indication of the Gronefeld brothers being anything but transparent and honest. Still that’s very surprising to me. I’m not a fan of the non-refundable despot because someone would very easily take your spot if you changed your mind. Thank you for sharing this.

Hmmm, as long as the pricing stays the same and considering ~20% more currency devaluation by 2025... this could work in your favor.

I’m struggling with the decision. Based on the guidance I can wait all month to make one.

I’m a different person/collector in three years for sure. Will that person enjoy this decision?

Probably.

Yeah same. I could see myself regretting passing in 2 years but could also see myself having completely lost interest in it.

When you guys see 70K on secondary as you wait it will make the delay feel better

I STILL can't figure out why the list price is 49800 versus 33500 (Principia) for a fundamentally similar movement.

I’m convinced they are gonna drastically raise the price of the Principia when they open up orders again.

Or if the US/EUR exchange rate goes back to where it was, you could end up paying as much as ~$7k more by the time the balance is due simply due to exchange rate (if you are in the US), right? But who knows…

A lot of price talk in here so I will leave my 2 cents. The principia was 38.1k USD at retail. When I bought it and till the time I sold it a year later most big dealers including EWC, Watchbox etc were advertising them for 60-70k. When I offered mine to these dealers they either rejected my piece or offered retail price. My principia has been with the same dealer I sold it to for about 6 months now. So if you are not absolutely in love with this piece I would say hold off on buying it. A Gronefeld is not the easiest piece to move.

True.

First and foremost get it for the passion and love. Their movements are outstanding! In August I was honored with the opportunity to judge a contest for best chrono on WPS. I chose the below:

I honestly find this very surprising. Do you think this is because those dealers are propping up the price?

I think everything is propped up. 6 months ago got good offers on my watches. Nowadays the spread is massive if not getting declined completely by most greys

What I’m seeing is greys massively low balling on acquisitions then huge margins on resale to make up for their recent losses

I say let greys go back to where they add real value: shifting AD inventory for which there is no demand at significant discounts. These guys became greedy. They made their bed, now they must lie in it.

I passed. 3 years is just too far out for me to get excited about this particular reference. Couple that with the fact I'm giving them a loan for 3 years...

Ugh, now we have to air out this place. Stinky!

(Deep sigh) As a geek who had the first, and second, and third.... awww, forget it. But really, c'mon, a wrist computer with connectivity has no soul, no passion.

PS: The 2027 Apple watch will be their most powerful yet, with even more vibrant colors, longer battery life, and features that revolutionize what you felt were possible. We know the new Apple products for 2022 will get you pregnant, for those with ovulation cycles.

Hopefully my winter 2025 slot trickles down to someone who wants one. I imagine there will be many passing and the timeline will move forward. My other friend passed as well after being quoted summer 2026.
