Sounds like you can’t afford it.

If it was really your “grail” watch, price doesn’t come into it as you’ll never be selling it…… so residual wouldn’t matter.

Agree.

And whilst waiting (a long time) for prices to settle, or even reach a point where you get a used watch below retail, inflation will have driven the new price higher and higher. Essentially you’ll be paying todays “MSRP” for a used one in 12 months/2 years…..

In the meantime you could have had the watch and been wearing it but as I said above, if it’s TRULY a grail, why worry about residual?

A true “grail” isn’t for selling, is it…..

Even later with small % discount (almost no chance), MSRP will keep rising next year etc. Get it while you can, or give to another guy next in queue so simple just that.

You can't realistically expect a discount at the moment. And even if you could, that would not be more than abt 10%, never has been. Which begs the question, does 1K make any huge difference in your grand scheme of things? That's for you, to answer to yourself, not to this forum.

Now let us see some wrist shots and cut the bs.

Congratulations in advance

Whatever the price is at MSRP or below…
IMHO If u can’t afford to lose all your money on the purchase of a luxury watch without breaking a sweat, you shouldn’t be buying it.

Get it now or regret it later.

Secondary prices have a long way to go before they get below MSRP. Will it even happen? Not sure. Get that bird in your hand while you can.

Time value of watches: you are better off owning and wearing a watch now than waiting months or years to start enjoying one. I'll skip the compounded enjoyment formula.

if you care about money fluctuations +/- USD 2k -> don't buy (any luxury items) now

if you don't care about such money fluctuations -> clear BUY

Get it.

Prices go up 5% randomly.

I bet you earn more in 1 month than any mythical saving you might get in the future.

Smart to pull the trigger OP. Secondary market is falling. But the AD retail price is not falling and may not for foreseeable future.

White/yellow gold sub, even blue daytona is slightly above retail
( real prices)
We are back to olde days

LOL... the old days would see these all under retail, with Daytona's at a healthier premium (still overpriced).

PM will slide there - not rare, not hard to get, and a 30k+ upsell on 3-4k of PM materials. TT's will eventually reverse too IMO.

SS sports watches though? I doubt it.

People so triggered by any mention of values that a guys comes on here and basically asks, “I want to buy this watch, but is there a way to get it cheaper?” And half the responses are lectures about not caring about watch values and residuals or him not being able to afford the watch.

We’ve reached peak craziness when people are saying that you shouldn’t worry about the price on even the initial purchase.

And OP, buy this watch now. You aren’t going to find it for under MSRP, unless it falls off a truck.

I doubt very much that watches will be available from dealers below MSRP. Nonetheless, if buying an expensive watch is going to create anxiety on your part, I’d just put the money away for another day when you feel more comfortable.

They were, both the 16610 LV and 116610 LV not popular on their release at all.
In todays market the OP better buys it though

The world is different now. There are so many more rich people that a global pandemic and shutdown did not dent the demand for luxury goods, homes, cars etc. all demand a premium. Rich people are even more rich, regardless of what the stock market does.

Rolex isn’t increasing production and demand from people with money continues to rise.

Trying to time a bottom never works, and you could never get the chance at MSRP again. I’m betting that MSRP IS the bottom. Don’t forget, MSRP is increased from time to time so even if you are offered it next year, it could easily be at a higher MSRP.

Buy the watch and wear it in good health.

If it is a true grail, get it ASAP. Not worth it to wait to see if you can get a small discount on it (don’t think it will ever be discounted any time soon from AD).

Hmmmmm....

A little thread drift for me ...but I've never thought of it like that . I like this A LOT. I am going to apply this measure moving forward even on pieces I know will not depreciate.

"If this watch depreciated 20 percent in value, would I still love it"? If the answer is no, I'm not buying.

Here's the other thing OP. Let's say hypothetically, discounts on SS references in the future are possible (they're not). Realistically, when would that be and how much would it be? Clearly, you would have to wait at least another year for the market to simmer on a watch as popular as the LV. Even then, the discount would be no more than 10%. Inflation is what, 6-9% annually right now?

Like I said, I'm honestly looking forward to the incoming post. I can't get enough pics of that gem.

For what it's worth, I just got the call for a BLNR from my AD and had to think about it for a second. I work in Finance, revenue for my firm is down and '23 looks to be more of the same. So, I rushed rushed into the AD's and bought it. If it's something you love, the exact $$ spent doesn't matter. It should be something that's on your wrist for decades.
