Your dumber than I thought. So, let me break it down for you, since your clearly 2 steps behind on the short bus.

Just because I said "you cant afford it" does not mean I'm telling OP what to do with his money.

Why is that so hard for you to comprehend ?

That isn't right. We don't talk like that around here, man. I can tell you're a typical "keyboard warrior".

I imagine this thread will be locked in short order. Sorry, Paul.

I have a YG GMT 116718 and a DayDate40 228238 that get a lot less wrist time lately. I wore a DayDate 1803 as my only watch from 1993 to 2005. Back then they were $6k to $8k. As the prices moved up significantly, I am probably more careful where I wear them.

My daily is a Bluesy 116613. I am on a list for a stainless YM 126622 slate dial to replace it.

I'm jealous that you have self control to only own one. I think 3 or 4 is my sweet spot, hoping to get a Day Date soon.

I will politely suggest, moving forward, you refrain from further deliberate insults towards others.
Always speak to others, as you'd expect to be spoken too.

I want to thank everyone for their comments and opinions. I also received some heartfelt PMs, talking about the recent loss of my mother, life in general, rewarding for accomplishments etc. I appreciate the sincere thoughtfulness that went into those messages.

I'm with you, Paul.

As much as I think I would like a PM Rolex, I know I could not wear it comfortably and it would sit in my safe.

Great thread (except those that turned it into financial advice about buying this watch.)

The focus of this topic seems more about daily wearing a PM watch, and having it as your only piece. So along those lines…

Some watches can be daily worn, I think the WG sub is a good example. WG in general is a better fit for daily wear, given it’s more subtle. Also being on bracelet or rubber is a big point too. A leather strap is hard to daily unless you have a pretty sedentary lifestyle; it’s also is very dressy. I put RG and YG in the same category. It can be very flashy and dressy, and again it depends on your lifestyle. Personally I don’t find myself in situations 100% of the time where RG or YG is appropriate.

Same with it being your only piece. Again, the WG sub is such a versatile piece. It can be dressy, sporty, and subtle at the same time.

Bottom line, if you’re going to go PM daily and only have one watch, this is the watch to do it.

Great post. Agreed.
I'd do it (in fact, in the slow process myself).

If you love the watch, buy it.
But I think we all get the dilemma.
At what price point will you draw the line?
Personally I could probably afford it too, but wouldn't.

I think it’s healthy to have a good pause…. When reflecting on spending that amount on a watch.

Having said that… if you have plenty of cash and some investments, very few expenses, go for it.

I don’t regret my purchases. I love my 126619.
It’s a great daily watch. Either it or a gilt GMT would be my one and only, if I had to go to one watch.

YOLO.

From the early 2,000's until a couple of years ago.
I wore without any concerns 24/7 the following PM watches.
Rolex DD.
FP Journe in Platinum
Patek Philippe in all golds.
During this time, I worked as an HGV driver, (which was strange changing over trailers while wearing my DD) Police and the Ambulance service.
I never had any concerns, about the watch being damaged.
As they were always fully insured with accidental cover, they could be repaired.

Moving forward to the current time, I would still not have any concern wearing one in my locality.

However, when we travel to London at the end of this month, I shall be leaving my S/S Submariner at home and wearing my Garmin.

I am not concerned about getting it damaged, but sadly the chance off being robbed, often with violent consequences. Which has increased 10 fold!!!

This is a great thread for the most part! I have had this same thing on my mind for a bit, the idea of maybe selling/trading multiple watches for this same WG Sub 41. Blue has always been my favorite color - I have multiple blue cars and mostly wear blue clothes, seeking blue in general.

The original WG blue ceramic (with blue dial and bezel) was on my wish list for a while. I have never been in a position to spring for such an expensive watch. I've been wearing Rolex watches now for about 15 years and I've floated between being a true "one watch" person to having a small collection. I wore a 16600 as my daily a few years and then a 114060 for many years.

I ebb and flow on these things, mostly out of a weird feeling of having too much wrapped up in watches. I'm very middle class and having a relatively nice, small, focused collection of Rolex watches gives me joy. I also realize that if I had some kind of weird financial emergency, that I could divest a few watches from the collection to recoup some money and still have a nice watch or two. If I was to consider making a big trade of multiple watches to get the grail watch, then I'd lose most of that flexibility.

Meanwhile, I rotate my current collection about monthly or less...last year I kept the newest Sub Date on my wrist for 6+ months and was totally happy with it. Until this year, I hardly wore my Milgauss Z-Blue for over a year. Now I'm trying to be a better steward of my collection and rotate more regularly.

All of that to say...the WG Sub 41 is a beautiful watch and if I had to pick one single watch to wear the rest of my life, that would be the one. Now I'm giving it some serious thought - thank you, Paul, for this thread!

Wow! This was identical to my entire thought process before I made this move for the WG 41. I mean to the letter...every single concern you have. Scary. I did it and have not thought twice about it yet.
