I read in my local Sunday paper that at the big soccer match (now don’t make me show my ignorance by asking which teams), anyway at the BIG game several hours after the event, the song (I think that national anthem) was booed. Can any Brits confirm this? And if I misinterpreted what I read I apologize profusely, but if it IS true…

You have a paper?

Does it come on a roll with an embossed floral pattern?

J/k. I did not see what you’re referring to, but did read about a traditional tune used for a professional football theme.

As a 4th generation Australian of British geneology (obviously not one of the ones who got a free trip here a few hundred years ago) I carry no torch for Royalty but enjoyed the spectacle as there was just so much to see in such an elaborate ceremony that must have required so much effort to stage.
Ultimately it doesn't matter what anyone else in the world thinks as the British public obviously loved it and it is they who paid for it.
The late Queen Elizabeth was beyond admirable and Charles seems like a good guy as well - a deep and progressive thinker. The next guy in line also seems very decent.
Hope they got a cup of tea and a scone in the middle of that ceremony - I'd have been worn out!

It was sweet of the newly crowned King and Queen to make an appearance on American Idol, from the Palace, alongside Katy Perry and Lionel Ritchie tonight.

The booeing at the Liverpool game is true Paul, the reasons are too political to explain here but since the early 80's Liverpool fans boo the national Anthem, it has just become one of those recognised facts. One of the most favourite newspapers is never mentioned or even sold in the city because it posted a nasty comment (and untrue)about something 10 years later, it died to that city. So much so, that after a press conference, the new manager was asked a question by a reporter, the new man had done his job and said " you are a reporter for the Sun, I'm sorry, we don't talk to you.

Wow…..

In addition to what has been said above, Liverpool is a town that was full of Irish back in the day. A bit like Glasgow. So in both cities you get people with a more republican view point shall we say, than a royalist one.
I don’t think they would ever play the national anthem at Celtic park, it would be mayhem!

Completely agree and believe he knows what he’s doing by design to close threads. People need to learn to scroll past if it’s not your thing. And pretty classless and insulting post regarding the royals, whether you agree with a monarchy or not.

Let’s try and bring a little levity to discussion… let’s start with this.

I missed it. I really regret not seeing it. It's a HUGE, HISTORIC event.

I was actually sick in bed with COVID, believe it or not. Never had it during the peak of the epidemic, but I ended up with a bad case of it.

Some people can't help themselves. I love the pomp and ceremonies. My wife being an equestrienne, loves the Cavalry Black Horses and Horseguards Parade is probably our favorite place in London.

I was walking back to my hotel one morning while in London as I'd left my telephone there. I was on Matthew Parker street when I heard the whistles of the SEG motorcycle riders and saw a motor fly by me. I turned around to see the dark burgundy Bentley with the Royal Standard on it. As it passed me, Prince Charles in the right rear seat looked at me, smiled and waved. He was on his way to Westminster Abbey for the Battle of Britain Remembrance Ceremonies. Even as an American, I thought it was a big deal.

Don't think Blansky and I agree on much in the political and social worlds, but I thought his post about the royals was done in a satirical way and should have been taken as such.

I agree with you. I enjoy his perspective on a variety of topics. Usually don’t agree but enjoy it none the less. Would be pretty boring if we all thought the same.

It looked serious and in poor taste to me. If it was a joke, he should have read the room before posting it. Bad form, very bad form.
