I'm retired now but as a Special Agent and former police Lieutenant I wore my first Rolex ( Explorer II) everyday for 23 years. Eventually I traded it in for a submariner.

I base my choice of Rolex on what I'm wearing, who I'm going to be meeting with and my mood, but I'm always wearing a Rolex at work.

I wear my Sub, GMT2 and Milgauss to work. Looking at my watch is such a stress reliever. And the boss wears a circa 1992 Pepsi.

This is a pretty peremptory statement.

It's fine to praise the values of individualism and personal success, but it's pretty out of touch with all the other forces which are at play in a professional setting, such as rigid higher-ups.

In other words, being confident wearing a watch doesn't have much to do with bosses who tell you to remove it or be fired.

Every day.

If I was limited to wearing only at weekends I probably wouldn’t bother having a collection on semi-decent watches.

I wear a SS YM2 at the office - oil and gas engineering firm. No hang ups or self conciousness whatsoever.

Depending on your working environment. I wear my Rolexes occasionally on big events or meetings but if you are working with professional companies, it is a great dress point to wear. It is like: MORE CLASS.
While I work a lot in projects field with my Mud Gshocks and bang it all the time.

Not always true if you cannot dress better than your boss. The right one is never over-smart your boss even tough you are right or have a better idea. So yes, you can wear your Rolex everyday.

I had a boss like that once. In fact, over my whole career I've had two like that. The solution is easy. Get another boss. The method may take some planning and manoeuvring, but anything that is worth doing is worth doing properly. If you are prepared to take that kind of behaviour that's your choice. But please don't blame anyone else.

Wear mine everyday without a second thought. I’m surrounded by smart watches, super casual dress code, and an employee population that are mostly young enough to be my kids. I’m sure I stand out a bit with my watches and dressing just a notch above super casual, but it hasn’t negatively impacted me and they probably see me as the “old guy” anyway. Most likely just think it’s quaint that the old guy is wearing an “old fashioned” watch instead of a smart watch or Casio calculator watch.

I bought my Sub 14060 in February 1996 (just walked into an AD where I live and bought it...those were the days!!) and have worn it almost every day since. Only a few watch-savvy colleagues have ever noticed it! Just my opinion, but a Rolex is made to be worn. Enjoy your Sub!!

I'm retired from the Air Force and now work for a large corporation. In the Air Force many of my peers and seniors thought it was cool. In fact - I talked about 3 of them into buying Rolexes (they were just intimidated to drop the coin). I told them that once they bought the watch, you didn't have to feed it. And I promised them that they would never experience buyer's remorse. I was correct in all instances. Note: In the corporate world, I've seen ONE VP with the same Sub I have. I see a lot of Seiko Datejusts (I'm almost tempted to buy one - they're nice).

I'm blaming the bullies, and rightly so.

Now if you have the economic/professional/health/family means to walk away from your job, or to even try playing continuous mind games so that it's your boss who ends up leaving, good for you. If you can afford them, these are certainly cards which you're entitled to play.

However I believe you're in the lucky minority of socio-professional Übermenschen, whilst the majority has to deal with crappy hierarchy for one reason or another and adopt strategies accordingly (e.g. wear SS instead or PM, wear long shirts instead of t-shirts, etc).

There is nothing wrong with adopting a strategy to navigate smoothly through the politics and/or prejudices of a working environment. That's creative. Some times I will keep a watch under a sleeve or wear a less ostentatious one so as not to give a client a wrong perception.

Bullies are different. If they can make you cower over one thing, however improbably, they will have you eating shit for ever. Getting out from under people like this isn't a privilege I was born with or have cultivated. It just takes time, planning and a will to get to a better place.

For the last 19 years I have had just the one boss. He's a terror. Never lets up on me for a minute. Likes his watches though :)
