Why does everyone always say that the DSSD is HUGE given that 44mm is almost a "standard size" these days? The "regular" Panerai is 44mm, I have one of those and I also have a 48mm Panerai and a 48mm pilot watch (which is actually small for period WWII pilot watches). I mean yes, the DSSD is a big watch, but the way some people here describe it one would think they are talking about a wall clock.

Is it because the people on this forum are so used to 40mm Rolex sport watches and therefore the pool of people commenting on this forum is geared more towards smaller watches? I wonder if this question about the DSSD's size was posted on a general watch forum if people would respond the same way as they do here?

Agreed. I bought a 40mm Rolex right before my DSSD and it just looked and felt like it was struggling to cover my wrist, and it just looked tiny, but I realize on others they look great and to those that they fit that's great. I however promptly sold it at a loss and will never buy another 40mm again, which I hate as I would love to own a regular sub and about a dozen other watches that size. I know I am in the minority, but to each their own, given their wrist size.

For many men 40mm looks alright I will admit, but 44mm is not huge in and of itself but rather is large for specific people.

My point is the DSSD is large...in comparison....but size is relative.

It's huge compared to the other popular sports models eg the sub and gmt, but it's also huge because of its heft. On the wrist it feels top-heavy as well. You don't really feel this on PAMs...

The DSSD takes a combination of the right wrist and correct bracelet adjustment. I've been wearing mine essentially non stop for over 2 years and I don't feel it out of balance or overly heavy. Though I prefer 'heft' in many of my interests and the over engineering was appealing to me. With all things though YMMV.

Agreed.
I've been wearing mine exclusively for about 4.5 years now.

I respect the heft of the watch as it feels good and substantial.
Like you I value heft where desired and on reflection my first hammer I ever bought when doing my apprenticeship was a 3 lb Ball Payne.
It's on the 3rd handle now and still going strong

Getting ready for my daughters birthday party. Switched from rubberb back to the Rolex steel bracelet for a change.
