There is a lot of sadness associated with this thread for me. I'm glad to see pictures of Steve out and about. I hope all is going well for him.

Wow. Not sure what to say. What a great thread...hadn’t seen this one before so thanks to those that keep bumping it.
What a humbling read with so much nuance...adventure, new acquisitions, sadness. Being that the post is going on almost 5 years I felt like it was living the OPs life (good and bad) right along with him. Every post felt like a new entry in a life’s journal. In some ways, it also made me feel a bit unworthy of the watches I have acquired. While I have managed to acquire the funds to pay for them, this journey put in perspective which watches have acquired more than just payment. My Explorer I (36mm) has been with me for 15 years now and has seen so much life...it takes a beating and just asks for more. My Seadweller 16600 likewise...was with me for the birth of my twins, a trip to Africa and the daily adventures of life with little boys (need a watch that can take a beating around them). While I love my other watches, this thread put the life into those two specifically for me and made me appreciate their simplicity, durability and sense of adventure. Thank you to the OP for this saga (or life, really) and condolences for your loss. |

It’s also shocking to me how distrustful people have become. While the pics certainly add context to the story, the words and narrative read like a great adventure book and gave me much more appreciation than the pictures (I know what a GMT and 5070 look like).
Slow down and read this one, regardless of pictures. |

I went through this thread up to its current point. Simply put, wow. Steve you are truly amazing. My absolute favorite part is when you mention that sour wife’s watch is the most important in your collection. Standing ovation.
