Credit card for the protection, extra warranty, and cash rewards, then pay it off in full at the end of the month.

Pay cash via bank wires--never buy what you can not afford--no credit cards unless paying off right away.

Side job...
Save up in a separate checking account than the family "bills" checking account. Then bank wire my funds to David SW or Dan Fernandez for Rolex and or Panerai. NEVER FINANCE. All the best, M.A.B.

Cash. I appreciate the watches when I own them through hard work, and saving. I have to say that the 1 to 3 years interest free is pretty good. I have a secret piggy bank, and an extra job. The piggy bank is where I buy everything from. UNLESS it's an internet purchase. I wouldn't suggest buying a luxury item on credit. I know having the new watch is nice, but you have to build yourself up financially. You may be a stock broker, or business professional, but there is money out there. I'm sure there is a neighbor out there who would pay a little weekly to handle the lawn. Take an afternoon and cut the grass once a week while listening to your Ipod. Just a few hours, and your $100 closer to the Rollie. Sounds funny until you pay cash money for a brand new watch. You'll never loose.

My one and only absolute rule- For Toys, you pay cash, after all other obligations are met. Never borrow money for toys unless you have total and absolute discipline. I never had that so I always knew if it wasn't in discretionary funds, I was best off to wait.

Let me add another thought, I have a friend that is a billionare, he always called them Killer Toys. IE if you buy them instead of saving and investing they will kill your chances to be really rich. I always liked that connotation 'Killer toys". Now sometimes when I'm riding in his Gulfstream I ask if this is the ultimate killer toy and he always says not, since he paid cash for it. Good guidance, it has served me well also.

Im shocked everyone is paying cash!!
I bought my new SD 16600 at the AD with my cc. Paid off every dime a week later. do you know how far $6k in miles-credits will go towards free flights? gee wiz! I fly for free 3 or 4 times a year... I totally agree that its best to pay off the entire cost immediately, rather than accruing interest charges, but its ridiculous to pay cash when you can get an added discount via miles credits from your CC.

Q. How do I pay for my Rolexes?
A. Through the nose. Actually, I did ok buying pre-owned on TRF... so that means by wire transfers. Scary at first, but got used to it with one solid seller. |

here in manila, buying in cash or credit card gives you the same discount. so they themselves would advice buying via cc. and you sill earn reward points

I suppose it depends on how generous your card's frequent flyer scheme is.
There's really not much incentive for me to use my credit card. With my card you need around $k36 frequent flyer miles to earn a flight worth about $299.00 You can always negotiate a sharper deal with cash which equates to a bigger saving than what you would get back in air miles. I don't know about you, But in the late 60's early 70's, I delivered about 100 newspapers, and I think I got around $70.00 a month. Of course I didn't even know that Rolex existed when I was 9 years old. LOL....:) Thank God I do better than that now a days.........

I always put away money with the intention to buy a watch, and use whatever facility the seller prefers.
I've never bought using a credit card with the intention of paying over a prolonged period of time. This is a vice I'm feeding, and IMO should come from extra funds and not money I don't have yet. Just my |
