On a much brighter note I am happy to report that today I went in to a local AD (Fraser Hart) to look at a SubC LV and walked out paying for a Black Dial SS Daytona

I initially got the usual spiel about how the waiting list is 5 years and they can't even put me onto the waiting list but I offered to pay for the watch there and then and they said that they could guarantee me the next Daytona they get allocated which is either the 3rd week of January or 3rd week of February.

Little bit unorthodox as I've already paid for the watch but I now just have to wait 1-2 months for my brand new SS Daytona

Much better than the 5 year wait I was initially told
Ok, so now I am skeptical about your story. You have the money to buy a brand-new Daytona? I don't believe it. You must now post a picture of you with it with the sales receipt and the watch on your wrist.

I'm just playin'

Really......congrats on your new watch. I know it doesn't replace the ones that were stolen (especially the sentimental piece stolen from your dad) but having a brand-new Daytona does seem to take away the "sting" a little......doesn't it??

Who would keep such a great collection at university dorms? Should have been in a bank or home but at a university where every lowlife is walking around .... it is like leaving them in your hotel room ....

Hehe I had never intended on spending that money on a Daytona just yet, was planning on saving up for another year or so but the burglary brought my plans forward a bit.

My family all said that I should buy back the ones that were stolen but maybe I'm a bit weird but I just couldn't bring myself to buy them back, as much as I love those models, it's those first models that I bought that I love. The effort I put into earning the money for them is what I loved. A replacement wouldn't mean anything to me.

So I thought ultimately it was better to start a whole new chapter of my watch story, albeit this chapter leaves me very much broke but it's worth it

I actually only ever took one with me to uni and rotated every few weeks when I returned home. Ultimately that is the ironic thing as they weren't stolen from uni, but my actual home where I believed they would be safe. But i've learnt my lesson, there's no way I'm leaving them out on display on my desk anymore, into the safe they go after each and every day!

Alex,

I am so sorry you were burglarized and they took your hard earned Rolex watches. Those scumbags will pay for that with instant karma! I also hope that those watches end up back at Rolex for repair and you get them back in your hands sooner than later.

Make sure you get an appraisal and add the SS BD Daytona to your insurance policy!

Wear it in good health!

p.s. by sharing your story with all of us you at least woke up many members on here who I am sure will now make sure they have insurance, keep they're Rolex paperwork and boxes separate from the watches and hide they're collections safely.
