"Major Boothroyd" was a real-life munitions expert that Ian Fleming knew, who advised him on armaments James Bond would use and encounter in the novels. The character otherwise known as "Q" in the movies.

Fleming wore an Explorer as his only Rolex, so took the name from there when I got interested in acquiring mine.

Family coat of arms. Given to my family in 1544 by king Gustav I (Vasa) of Sweden.

Mine was a mistake picture taken by a friend in Paris. The picture was supposed to be in color and, for some reason, it came out in black and white. My wife liked it, so there it goes.

This thread inspired me to add one! My wife secretly took this of me ordering a drink for her at the Wynn in Las Vegas on our anniversary in March.

That is of course Terry-Thomas, but I did not know that it was from the film "School for Scoundrels," which I ordered immediately.

That also caused me to do some research on the author Stephen Potter, so I ordered The Complete Upmanship: Including, Gamesmanship, Lifemanship, One-Upmanship, Supermanship.

I'm looking forward to reading these works and watching the film.

Thanks for piquing my interest.

Grady, have you watched the movie or read the book yet?

Like you, I ordered both and just finished watching the movie. They don't make 'em like this this anymore, and it was the best thing I've seen in a long while. The book I received is like new from 1971 and is a hoot right from the beginning!

I haven't watched, yet. It will definitely be next week before I can get to it, but I'm really looking forward to it.

That Avatar has made it well around the Web. Wish I knew her when I lived in Stuttgart (but she probably wasn't born yet )

Eh, come to any bierfest and you'll see a thousand of her.

If you're a single fella, and look successful, you'll need a stick to beat the single ladies off. No, I'm not kidding either. LOL!

Bad Cannstatter Volksfest was 20 minutes or so from my High School, knew it well back in the early/mid 80s

mine used to be the mascot (a racoon named Roni) of the 1980 winter olympic games (lake placid, where i lived for a time) doing what i love (downhill skiing).

these days, i live in a city (paris) and do a lot less skiing, but i do get to eat a lot of amazing food.

so, i've switched to a photo of foie gras.

umm, lets see.

Thomas Sullivan Magnum is an honorary member of the family. For one thing, I am part Hawaiian, so there's that. My father was a SEAL and did a couple of tours in Vietnam. The show was one of the first to portray vets from that era in a respectful manner, i.e. not drunk under a bridge, as was the stereotype of the day. I was always grateful to Don Bellesario for doing that.

In the days after 9/11 when I was working 70-90 hours a week and going nuts from lack of sleep while on the job, A&E used to run Magnum episodes at 14:00 when I was just coming off or getting up. Anyway, those little episodes about four guys and their friendship (as well as the decent writing and brilliant acting of Hillerman and Selleck) kept me sane as I simultaneously tried to do my job as a LEO/EMT-P and also worried sick about my buddies in NYPD/FDNY.

So, yea, Tom Magnum is a friend of mine.

Great explanation.
Being quite young when watching Magnum PI for the first time, I missed a lot of the subtleties that went on between Thomas and Higgins. Having watched it more recently I totally get it and it still stacks up 25 years later.

Trying to convince the Mrs that we need 2 Pinchers which is proving hard to sell to her at the moment
I wonder what names they would have if I am successful?
