There is a break in symmetry and order even with the pearl at 12 oclock because there are only hash marks from 0-15 minutes instead of all the way around the bezel. If that doesn't bother you, I don't understand why moving the pearl to the minute that corresponds with the date should.

Lol, exactly. And end up looking like a teenager checking his Facebook, does not look good in a room full of professional adults.
I do love the Submariner though, just can't afford to own it and the others I have, just to wear out of work, maybe one day.

Pulling up some old news...I just added a 14060 to my watch collection. I found that it called to me the first time I saw one and it never let go. I have another Rolex which is also dateless. I like it a lot also. At work I use a smart watch which is tied to my cell and also broadcasts incoming time, date, email, phone calls, texts, weather, stocks, and appointments all without a sound from my cell and without ever pulling my cell from it's holster. Many here are in professions which prize Rolexes in the work force. I'm in high tech and I can tell you for certain that a smart phone carries more interest there than a Rolex. I'm the oddball there for wearing my Rolex. My schedule is that I work alternating three and four day weeks so at least 50% of my time is away from work. I'm more than happy to wear my traditional no date Rolexes. Why was I drawn to the 14060? Maybe it was subconscious (npi) or maybe it was the purity of its looks. I don't know for certain but the pricing agrees with my perceptions. It just seems as many others have said to be a perfect Rolex. Additionally I'm a small framed person with small wrists. I've had my full of large sized watches and they don't work for me.

The real question is why choose a Sub of any kind over a Sea-Dweller?

You get a rarer watch, date and no cyclops.

That watch also called to me but in the end the ND won.

The Sub ND is a vastly superior mechanism, uses rare and advanced materials and Rolex limits it's availability to only the most astute watch afficianados.

That black NATO tho! I have the four liner 14060M, and it will always be my favorite because it was my first.

Why? Because a date function on a watch is pretty much useless.

Why not have a function on the watch to remind you of the month...the year...what planet you love on...etc.?

In the end its a simple decision if you need the date or not and like the cyclops or not. If you like both get both.

I didn't read any of the replies yet - just jumped right to my answer. Excuse me if I'm being redundant.

The beauty and symmetry of the dial do it for me. That, and the fact that the Sub dates seem to be a lot more common.

Submariner Owners: Why choose Sub over Sub-Date?

For me the no-date Sub is the iconic model. I certainly have no problem with the date models, but I wanted to snag the no-date first.
It's the only sub they don't "mess with" no coloured bezels or gold/TT options. Just steel and black. And iconic (did I mention it's iconic??).
I love my Rolexes with dates too (ExpII and DJ). And I'll eventually add a GMT and probably a SD at some point. Maybe a red is in my future...I'd have no issues with that!
But for my first sub I only wanted a no-date version.

All the original Subs were without a date. Also I'm not a fan of the plastic cyclops

I work a ten day shift cycle including nights, so I never know what day it is, let alone the date. So until they make a day date version, the Sub date is the one for me! Plus the fact that I prefer the SEL's of the 16610 and love the cyclops.

I'm a cheap neanderathal with no taste which is why I chose the no date and changed it for the hell of it. The truth is it is great to be able to make changes and have it seem like a totally different watch.
