At the end of the day, you're ok. No one was seriously injured. As with any possession, it is ultimately just that...A thing. Things could have always gone worse. Some people don't make it back up after a fall. We are glad you're ok.

Want to know what will be the most gratifying feeling? The moment you snap a new piece to your wrist. And we will be eagerly awaiting the drool-fest for your next best.

Take care and know you've got a whole community of support here for you! I hope you get some justice and peace from this whole crazy situation.

What a heartbreaking and depressing story. I'm so sorry this happened to you. But glad that your health is ok. As others have said it would have been so much worse if you'd seriously injured yourself. I shall keep my fingers crossed someone eventually takes your watch into an RSC. It is always going to be on file as being your rightful property and a piece like that will more than likely find it's way to an RSC at some point and then back to you. I hope your wrist heals soon and that good fortune starts to smile on you again asap.

Tom, does it make sense to put up a few lost signs with description of the watch around the area where those stairs are, and offer a reward if somebody "finds" and returns it???.....

I have thought about (briefly) the idea of offering a reward.

I refuse to pay even one yen to someone who either stole it or found it and did not do the right thing and turn it into the police right away. Even if it meant getting the watch back. I'd hate myself after and think the encounter with them where I would have to do the all "no questions asked" routine would get on my last nerve concerning this.

So sorry to hear that Tom, but I'm glad you didnt break any bone. I broke my hand once and trust me it wasn't nice at all.

The insurance is a joke, if its $3000 per item max, then you should get $3000. I think the insurance is probably your best chance to recover some lost. However, if your claim is approved this may mean that the watch belongs to the insurer should it ever be found.

Very true about the watch belonging to them if ever found and theyve paid you your $3k. I just got an addendum to my policy saying the same thing....

This is interesting so I did a little research on this.

If somehow the old watch is recovered, you have 2 options:
1. Return the new watch. The insurance company will sell the watch, maybe in auction.
2. If you want to keep the new watch, you will have to return the money of the insurance claim.

I think this is only the general policy and it may varies from policy to policy. Somehow I did not find anything as to the ownership of the old watch.

Sorry to hear. Be thankful that you are walking around with only some wounds. A fall like that could have left you paralyzed or worse.

Sorry for your loss Tom. I donʻt know whose worse, the insurance company or the lowlifes that stole your watch. I hope they all get a good dose of Karma for what they did. Hang in there!!!

Tom, I just saw your post. I'm very sorry to hear this happened to you, especially here in Japan. I know how much you loved that watch and I hope you get it back. I honestly think you have a fairly good chance of getting it back if the guys who took it are Japanese. They likely will attempt to sell or pawn the watch and I think the watch will be checked through RSC and/or against lists of stolen watches as a matter of routine. I know reputable dealers in Tokyo make these types of checks. Anyway, I hope you get it back. Zannen desu!

Sorry to hear this. Bottom line ... a watch can be replaced ... that's not so easy with a person. You're OK and that's the most important thing. Now, start thinking about your next Rolex!
