Cool thread. I always loved these ads. Really made me fall in love with the brand. I wish I had some of these older ones still. I had some great ones. My father subscribed to Nat Geo from the mid 60’s to early 90’s which had many. Unfortunately when he passed some of my relatives left them outside in the elements to be destroyed and they had to be thrown away when I found them.

This thread unlocked some memories! I remember an art class in high school where we had a bunch of magazines from the '60-'80's and we had to make collages using them.

Of course, my goofball friends and I chose all the old Camel and Marlboro ads.... but I do remember seeing some of these in the Nat Geo's and being fascinated. I have always been in to watches- Timex, Casio, Fossil, etc and then as I grew so did my tastes.

As others have said, these ads have me texting my AD for a polar explorer as my next request hahahahaha.

I love this thread! This is what made me fall in love with Rolex, these adds that sold a tool and an adventure! Sadly today’s Rolex’s are just a status symbol. Looks at the packaging, modern Rolex don’t sell that adventure it’s so bland. I love my 114270, I can’t afford a 1016 but it’s the last tool explorer before they ruined it with the 39mm.

Here's a rare ad found earlier this month by Nick Gould.

It's the first time we see an ad promoting... a white-dial Explorer.
