Congrats Eric on the DD purchase - beautiful watch. See you are a Vancouver residence - which Rolex AD do you do business with??

I also always considered the DD as my "grail", so I have ordered the 36MM DD Everose Chocolate with matching Croc strap from my fav dealer, Montecristo on Hastings. Sam, the manager, treated me very well price-wise. I will be picking it up on Monday. My wrist is on the small size, so the classic 36MM size fits me perfectly.

I have also requested that the watch not be removed from the Rolex coffin, and I expect the proper display box with the sleeve. I have made many purchases from Sam and he knows how anal I am.

BTW, I live in Kelowna, but have a second residence in downtown Vancouver so I visit the watch stores frequently. Who knows, some day we may run into each other.

Sorry I missed this post, J. Alan.

Congrats on the purchase of your grail. The Everest Gold Day-Date is absolutely stunning. Looking forward to seeing pictures of that beauty on your wrist. Love your dial choice too. Chocolate dials and RG watches are a match made in heaven.

The AD I frequent is Montecristo at Oakridge Centre. Been dealing with a fellow by the name of Gianni for well over a decade now. He has always treated my friends, family and I with the utmost respect.

Do you ever really have your grail? You think you do when you get it, but just a few short months later, there is a new one that you lust for.

Can't speak for others, but I am pretty content after getting mine. The likelihood of a future watch purchase in the future will happen, but I truly doubt if any watch purchase will meet the same level of happiness as was experienced when I received my Day-Date.

My Grails! The DJ was my first Rolex ever and was a gift from my father, and the TT SUB was my first buy on my own! Love them both!Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1443158271.269214.jpg

Ain't it funny, but each watch I've obtained at the time was my "Grail." It's a shame to name something so fleeting with such a divinely inspired name.

Yes, I have taken delivery of the Daydate, but I am uneducated at taking pictures and uploading them on the TRF site. I know it is a "practice makes perfect" thing, and some day soon I will force myself to learn. I had an employee take pictures of me with the store manager (the pictures turned out very nice) presenting me with the watch although they don't reveal very much because the watch is encased in the coffin box which I insist my new Rolex watches be delivered in

It was a joy removing all the packing and stickers at home, adjusting the strap, and generally admiring the beauty of the Daydate at my own leisure. I received the proper presentation box which is very heavy and large along with the outer sleeve. One interesting label on the outer sleeve instructs the AD to package the Skydweller and Gold Daydates using this particular size of box. Very few consumers would realize this as most AD's do not give the customer the outer sleeve unless they insist as I do. I also believe that quite often the wrong size presentation box (there are many sizes) are given to the customer adding confusion to exactly what size box should be presented with each given model.

When I get the time, I will take pictures of the whole kit, overcome my ignorance, and learn how to post them.

No, problem Eric - we are all very busy these days.
I very often drop into the Oakridge store. I enjoy talking to Johnny, an old geezer like me, who sold his shares, retired, decided he didn't like being retired, and came back as a salesman. We have very interesting conversations about watches and life. He wears his own personal grail, a 36MM Daydate President which he has kept in mint condition. He knows I buy my Rolex watches at the flagship store from Sam and it doesn't bother him. I sense that Johnny started working again just to get a break from the wife!!

Who knows, we may run into each other someday.

Thanks, J Alan.

Johnny who you are referring to is the same fellow I deal with. When he pronounces his name, it does sound like Johnny. Gotta love that Italian accent.

Maybe we will run into each other one of these days. Can't wait to see your DD one of these days.

Here is a grail I had to have. I waited about 10 months for it and at times, I did not think I would get it. Wearing it now

Exactly the same for me. I've wanted a rolex since I was 16 years old and now 20 years later I finally achieved it. A humble 116610 for me too.

I do envy guys who still dream and obsess over their grail, even if it is obtainable. As you go on in this hobby you do get more blasé and maybe more content and thus the feelings and passions are often diminishing, so while you are dreaming and scheming really savour it, happiness is in the doing and the journey as much as in the attainment.
