Would anyone choose the VC over the Daytona?
As a pre-owned watch buyer only, I will say yes and agree with the sentiment that the VC looks awesome in person. The value proposition changes greatly when you are not talking MSRP, where the VC is at a disadvantage.
These are obviously older models. Of these three, to me the VC has the advantage over the Daytona with better WR, antimagnetic case, a date function. I find it more legible as well (had even more trouble with my old black 116520). The AP is highly legible but only has 50m WR and seems to show scratches very easily. So although I have since traded the Daytona, I previously answered the question by getting both. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

LOVE the VC
Although I presently own a 'group' of Daytonas (4) I find the VC Overseas extremely desirable.
The design is ingenious and unique, down to the use of the Maltese Cross and the asymmetric subdials. The build quality is amazing and it's exclusivity makes Daytona seem quite pedestrian. The 'big date' feature is both beautiful and useful. The VCO looks stunning on both leather and bracelet. Finally, that blue dial is absolutely stunning. (Also very much appreciate all of the great pix and diversity of opinion in this thread!) |

The above comments on the value proportion are correct.
But, keep in mind that VC was the only (Rolex does not count) watchmaker to not layoff workers during the quartz crisis. It was run by a sick older man whose family didn't care for the business. When the Saudi Oil Minister Yamani bought it, he wanted the brand but also wanted the prime real estate property VC owned. During this time VC still introduced exceptional pieces and still created Haute Horological pieces, it just didn't have the proper management. Even in 2001 it did not have a web site nor email contact. Since Richemont bought it, VC has reorganized and it has slowly gained marketing advances and opened new boutiques. If one looks at the VC second hand market, one can see the annual increase in resale value of older VC and OS models. I support the opinion and policy that as VC becomes more popular, it will still retain its small manufacturing flavor yet increase its marketing and distribution presence. This creates a supply and demand imbalance. The second hand market is starting to show this as used VCs are increasing in price at a higher percentage. So if the above is correct and in order, the resale disproportion that VCs have should balance out. |

Both the Daytona and the Overseas are splendid and desirable watches to me. If I had to choose, I'd go with the Overseas. I picked this one up about a year ago and am very happy with it.
I would really like to see Rolex come out with a stainless steel Daytona that was not so polished.

Interesting thoughts,Christos.
I love VC,for their confidence in their quality, rather than sticking their watches in movies, sporting events or the Elen Degenerate show.

They don't have basketball player limited edition of 10,000 or movie star so and so limited edition of 12,000. They make watches that are top quality, fantastically engineered, and as per most watch sites and magazines their movement architecture is always top. Whether they use and modify an out sourced movement like the F. Piquet or their in house (watch Hondikee compare PP, Lang and VC - VC is preferred). 10 years ago one would need to look or go to Geneva to buy a VC. Today we have 2 VC boutiques in Dubai and I can even buy VC in Johannesburg. And trust me I am happy to hear the words - "We will order for you". Plus from first hand knowledge, their after sales customer service is top. |

I'm in the process of deciding on a dress watch in YG.My top of the list is the Patrimony Traditionelle with Cal 4400.

Beautiful watches, which model?
Have you seen the Harmony or the latest Maitre Regulator launch? My next purchase will be the TRADITIONNELLE CHRONOGRAPH or when I do see it, the new MAÎTRE CABINOTIER PERPETUAL CALENDAR REGULATOR. |

Thank you and I fully agree with a VC forum. But we also have the Hour Lounge, not as exciting but good.
I was asking because there are 3 variations of the 4400. And various models, small second, diamonds, etc. But your choice is great. |

Great remarks. This post started out with 7 "Hell No's" and "No Ways" that completely trash talked the VC and then the corner turned when JES77 took the non-lemming route and said he felt the VC was the better watch. MitchSteel also stepped into the fray in the same way and we then got to a real discussion. I like to look for opportunities. I think finding quality that is being discounted and beat down is a better place to look than to chase after the bubble. I wouldn't buy junk that's being trash talked but I would consider quality that is currently out of favor. I didn't read the post but I saw a post title today that said TT sport watches basically have no buyers. I immediately thought that these are the watches to be buying. Let them fall way out of favor. Let the steel models surpass them in price. TT's will come back. VC is not receiving much attention but it is full of quality. Buy these watches almost new after they have big mark downs and enjoy and wear them. It's not really that expensive of a hobby in the long run if new buyers recognize the item has value. My Black '97 911 TT w/22k miles on it is worth 2.5x what I paid for it in 2000 and it's been fun to drive and own.

If VC comes out with a new model with their own in house movement I may add that one to the one I just bought. Fyi: checked accuracy by time dot gov and its on to the exact second after more than 12 hours.

Diverging a little to say I'm looking forward to receiving my PP 5035G with a black and a brown PP band. It's pictured in my Avitar. It should arrive Thursday morning from DSW (not the shoe warehouse).

Nicholas thanks for your opinion. Do you have a Daytona you like best? If you have one I'd love to see a picture of it. |

My OS blue dial says hi.
Almost 2 years old and has the most wrist time. I think my DSSD and K series Sub may come a second close. Crap this close up makes my wrist look hairy!!!!!! |

The VC OS take a huge hit for sale if you get it at retail and i was told by a boutique they are making an inhouse movement for it, the solid choice here is the daytona but if your looking for something different i would advise you to wait a bit and check the updated VC OS when it comes out

Christos our watch looks good. I'm really glad you shared your blue VC. It's interesting how much the appearance of the dial can go from that blue to black depending on the ambient lighting. Great posts all the way around guys.
