You mentioned the DD is your grail... If you get the Patek will you second guess your decision down the road and wish you had purchased the DD? Is the same true if you buy you buy the DD, will you think about the Patek?

Thought so. I'd like to see RG and black motif. I rank YG with black my current fave but wish it were RG. I saw the wg with slate vertical, loved it but I don't need another wg Rolex.

If it's your grail, then why would you even need to be in a difficult decision at all!? It doesn't matter if it's a PP like everyone else would say is a different league. Just go for what you dream about day in day out.

Simple:
Go DD if you want flash. PP if you want to fly under the radar. |

Congrats on the DD. No need to take other people's opinions into account when selecting a watch. Just pretend to do so

By the way, you can swap the bracelet on the DD with a leather strap and you have best of both worlds! Not with the PP

Yeah now that is a tough one...my gut says Patek is hands down the better watch. BUT, the only way you'll know is to try them on in person several times with different shirts on. The calendar wasn't in my price range of consideration, but fwiw I found the Patek Nautilus just didn't look right on my wrist even after all the online lauding. I'm glad I didn't go Calatrava because I thought it too fragile. Since then, I have bashed my DD a few times and it didn't blink, whereas I think the Calatrava would have been seriously damaged. That calendar is beautiful, but my gut sez if u give it a good bash on a door jamb (which I inevitably would at some point), it's toast.

This is what you'd classify as a, "first would problem."
Both great watches, my choice would be the 5205R, one of my favorite annual calendars...and it's a Patek. No contest IMO.

As others have mentioned, the DD really is a more versatile every day watch compared to that particular Patek. For me, Rolex usually always trumps everything else because of how many situations you can wear them in compared to other watches. With that DD40 (which is gorgeous btw) you could swim, attend a wedding, play golf, to go a bar - all in the same day perhaps -- that's the true value of Rolex IMO.

First of all, congrats on obtaining your grail. It is is a true beauty.
Based on what you have written, I would say keep the DD 40. You said it easy your grail, not the Patek. You are the one who is wearing it and no one else. End of story. |

It's your grail watch, not theirs. Congrats on the saving. Buy what YOU love.

In my opinion after saving for DD for a long time it tend to be your grail. WIS doesn't let anyone non WIS to decide which watch to buy.

If I was plunking down my money, I'd go with the DD. I've tried on PPs and APs in the boutiques and they just don't sing to me.
One thing for sure, you don't want to pull the trigger until you are certain of what will please you. |
