Nice Hyper Blue STI!!
Nice. I think I'm going to do it. I think the quote was for $70, which is awesome.

And thanks! I love it.

Personally, I'm not a fan of the PCLs on the GMT IIc bracelet, so when I purchased mine I had the AD brush the PCLs.

Why I like PCLs: If one actually travels time zones a lot for days or weeks at a time one needs a do-anything watch... hot, sweaty environments, water and more formal occasions... and a jumping hour hand. I like the BLNR because it spans such a wide variety of applications. It looks as good while wearing a nice wool suit as it does while wearing a bathing suit. A GMT with a leather band would not do, nor would a "tool watch"/beater-looking thing. WR and good long-lasting lume is important as well. In my opinion, the BLNR with PCLs is the ideal tool for its purpose.

the AD let you buy a brushed sub bracelet separately? i thought they couldn't or wouldn't do that unless they installed it on a sub

Barthman in manhattan was willing to do it. I called and they will not quote a price over the phone, they need to look at it first. I just don't have time to trek out to the city and find out if the price is reasonable.

I then found a small watch shop in Brooklyn near my office. I called and went over there at lunch. The watch maker was not there so the boss there asked me to leave the bracelet. I ask how they do it and the boss said " just use a metal brush like that ? " Scared the crap out of me so I took the bracelet and left. I left my number for the watch maker there to call me back but he didn't.

So after some research and saw a bunch of youtube videos, I did it myself. I use scotch bright for the general area and use 3M 30 micron sandpaper for the curves in between links. I got all the supplies and tried them on a steel spoon's polished surface first. Then compared the result with my SD4K. They look no different. So I just went with it myself.

Total cost : $ 2.99 for scotch bright, $9 for 3M paper.

WOW that looks impressive! Looks great!

You are a brave soul to take $12 worth of rough paper and a youtube video to "brush" out a $9k watch

Is he really? Worse case you take it to the jeweler and pay them to do it if you don't get the result you want. The bracelet is solid, you aren't going to damage it, and you can source a new easylink bracelet for 1500 on here so I wouldn't throw the 9k watch number in anyway. Really not a huge deal doing it yourself, and its completely 100% reversible. People on these forums are really afraid to do things themselves. It's just a watch.

Bruce, it was quite an exciting challenge. I am in industrial design so I am very handy in making models and stuff. I have messed with way more expensive stuff so I was confident in what I was doing.

Since you are in NYC, come out next week and I will show you how to brush yours.

True....but still brave in my books! ;-)

Speaking of sourcing new bracelets - do you know where a sub glidelock bracelet can be purchase?

I think that is a good idea. I think they look better brushed and you never have to deal with scratches. Seems like a win-win.

I LOVE this look. Curious, how much does the bracelet cost? Can it be sourced from any AD?

4, let someone else enjoy the watch. trust me, there are a lot uglier things in the world than being upset over than damn scratches on your watch.
