I used to assume it had to come off and so I would temporarily put it in a cloth in my briefcase. But since reading otherwise here about a year ago, I've worn it several times for domestic flights without being asked to remove it.

In nearly 20 years of wearing Rolex watches and traveling both in the U.S., as well as internationally, I have yet to be asked to remove it...nor has it ever set off the sensor's. Additionally, it won't set off the sensors at your local courthouse either...and nor will the marshals ask you to remove it whilst your taking off your belt and letting them run your briefcase through the machine!

Point of fact: High end stainless steel...is in itself Anti-Magnetic! Try sticking a magnet on a Sub Zero or Thermadore Fridge....or your Rolex Oyster bracelet. You will quickly find out that the high end SS used by all of these companies (and many others) will not allow the magnet to stick!

In 25 years of business travel, only once at Frankfurt Airport. I was requested to remove my 16610.

Collected my Patek from Geneva in February - absolute insistence I took the watch off and put it through the scanner at Geneva airport (and I mean insistence!)

So, on my recent trip to Scotland, I put my Rolex in my carry on and went through security/TSA, so no issues. On the way back, the carry on bags were full of wet, sweaty clothing and I checked them thru to the US. Screening in Inverness was easy-peasy. Another security/prescreening person in Dublin/connection required me to remove all jewelry... and I had to endure a 5-minute queue after my itsy-bitsy container went through screening. And, naturally, a flop sweat ensued waiting to see if it would be waiting for me on the distant end. Fortunately it was, which has given me a measure of faith. Next time, I'll submit to the full body cavity search just to be sure. It's much less stressful.

Not a Rolex in this video, but I sure thought of this thread when I saw it.
I think this watch commercial is funny Here's the video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2x8hImwRZtg

Seems like attitudes in Europe and the US are radically different. I fly from Manchester a lot and the staff there always insist you remove your jewellery. This time they insisted on all electronic devices being carefully place in the trays. You couldn't put your ipad and sat nav in the tray on top of your lap top for instance. They had to be in separate trays, spaced apart.
So I had a tray for my carry on, and two trays for electronic devices and bits and pieces ( belt, wallet, etc ). At least I got to keep my shoes on.

I usually fly back from Almeria where they usually take me to one side and go through my carry on piece by piece. The airport is pretty quiet and I think they have a quota for carry on searches. I usually fall for it because I'm there pretty early most of the time.

I agree.

Was in Zante (Greece) airport in July on way home to UK. Was asked to remove watch and place in try, which I did as requested. I walked through the scanner, and the tray containing my watch came through at pretty much the same time.

No problem.

Flew to Vegas and back last weekend from Moline Illinois. Opted for pat down in Illinois and went through detector at McCarran. Was never asked to take it off ever. Funny thing is when you're in line they say to take off belts, jewelry, shoes, empty pockets etc...

I would take my underwear off in front of everyone before I took my watch off. Never had a problem.

Flew through Venice Marco Polo airport yesterday and the security guy asked me to remove my watch (BLNR). I very politely said no and showed him my watch on my wrist. He then said, "Ok, no problem then" and waived me through. The alarm didn't go off and I was sent on my way.

One other time wearing my Datejust I was asked to remove the watch and hold it in my hand as I went through the scanning machine in the US. This was a couple of years ago.

Other than those two incidents I have never been asked to remove my Rolex in nearly 30 years.

Flying through Dulles/DCA; always on the wrist never a problem. I don't know comfortable I'd be with the delay between passing the scanner and seeing my bag chilling at the end of the table waiting for me!!

Went through LAX again recently, and the TSA officer again told me never to take "watches like that" off. Then as I was leaving said "nice watch by the way". I think I've had that same TSA officer before since last time went through LAX the TSA officer also noticed my watch (different Rolex). Must be a WIS.

Never have and never would, with the standard of idiots the TSA employs you may want to check the laces in your shoes when they come out other end, Iv seen them get light fingered with everything lol.

I always use pre check anyway

Don't take it off... For the people who say that it's only out of sight for a few seconds just aren't right. I've had my bin flipped over inside the xray before when the line got jammed up because 2 lines merged into one scanner. I didn't have my watch in the tray but if it was who knows where it could have ended up. They lost my bording pass inside the machine and said they couldn't open it up without a TSA officer and Homeland Security agent present which could take 30 mins or more. It wasn't a big deal because I just reprinted at the gate.. but could have been worse.

Regardless of what could happen, there just isn't a reason to take it off otherwise.
