Sober as a judge!! I'm in the core of Ironman training. 100 plus mile bike rides and long runs in the blistering southern heat. Drinking isn't really an option right now.

We saved about $1800, but the experience was incredible. When you have a little time, read through the thread. I was blown away by the hospitality. Worth every penny!!!!

I'll be happy to look after the Platona while you're in Kona!

No problem. I'm going to wear the Hulk during the race. First known Rolex to be worn during the Ironman World Championships.

Thanks, Larry. I appreciate your support. After several training sessions in this heat, my goal is to not die.

Personal goal or are you a professional athlete?
Either way, that is an incredible event and I hope your race day goes as planned

Personal goal. Not a professional athlete. It's taken about 11 years of hard work to get to the World Championships. Thank you for the support!

This is very cool. I'm glad this was such a monumental experience for you! I only recently "discovered" the Open Discussion section so missed the preamble. Sounds like it lived up to your expectations and then some.

I'm a Maker's Mark guy, but I imagine a bourbon factory tour would be almost as interesting as a Rolex/ALS/PP/etc. factory tour.

It's funny -- we went to Hawaii a few years ago and our six days on TBI coincided with the six days leading up to the Ironman. In fact, we flew out on the morning of the race. It was very inspiring to see all the (obvious) contestants biking or running or walking around during that week. As a once only marathoner, I can only imagine....

Good luck! It's the pinnacle!

Very cool! I wish you all the best

By the way, do you have other goals as well? Particular marathons or ultras, or other Iron man's?

Doing the Dopey challenge at Disney in January. 5k, 10k, half marathon, and full marathon. Then I'm retiring from long distance racing. I'll still train and stay in shape, but do shorter races.

Races are always fun, no matter how long you go!

My next mara is in October and really have the desire to carefully/slowly make my way to ultras.
Would be fun if we could do a Marathon des Sables GTG

With 500-ish bottles between the two barrels, have you jumped into Distributor status with the licensing board?

No, we still have plenty. Several of my buddies were so enamored by our tales of the Jack Daniels experience that they wanted in on the action. They finally bugged me enough to where I decided to go for it. There is definitely no shortage of whiskey at home!!!
