RSC polished watch against instruction

With all the negative threads about the NY RSC, I don't understand why people keep sending watches there. 1) The watch was running out of COSC standards, under warranty, and they still charged for service. 2) They completely ignored the customer's request for not polishing. Yes, they refunded the money, but the customer service is horrid.

Well why did you post a pic of a 6 digit and also say that there should only be 2 surfaces instead of 3? Even conceding that the chamfer is more pronounced on padi's than a new one, your statement and the example you posted were completely wrong.

I like the idea of the OP taking his watch into a dealer and comparing it with a new one. If he can't tell the difference, then that should put his mind at ease.

This is a forum for people who buy and own pointless vanity items that individually cost more than the average annual income for the average human being on the planet. Every single thread on here would be considered obscene if read by a substantial proportion of the world's population.

This comparison and "which problem would you rather have?" Question is completely inappropriate IMO.

If in fact your questioning was not hypothetical and your home is actually been destroyed (which isn't totally clear) I'm so sorry and senstative to your problems, as i am for everyone who is struggling right now. but there's no reason for you to make others feel bad about their day to day problems because worse scenarios exist.

Furthermore, you don't know what types of struggles anyone goes through every single day. Some people struggle with serious illnesses, but find enjoyment in this hobby and this forum. If you think their complaint doesn't compare well to your house flooding, you're automatically going to give them a life lesson in perspective!? Ridiculous.

You don't even know the differences in cases between 5digit and 6digit SD...

How can we take your opinions seriously when you used different references for a comparison and didn't even know it??

Let me apologise. I posted an example of a Rolex, labelled "example, not identical model" when what I should have done is to find sufficient time to post a photo of a 5 digit Sea Dweller, as here...



Now, you go off and find a photo of a new & unworn SD, as the one shown above alleges to be on Chrono24, which shows a slightly rounded edge to the two adjoining surfaces and I won't disagree. But said slightly rounded edge will not be a flat third surface as in the photo padi56 posted.

You'll notice the point I was trying to make in my earlier post, but this time hopefully I have the correct model?

Please do let me know if you have an alternative photo of this model showing the crisp lug edge better than I have, or a slightly rounded one even, and please do continue to correct any erros I may or may not make. I'm always learning, but have never bothered with the SD as you can tell.

I understand your point that you specifically requested that the watch not be polished, and I would be upset too if they had gone against my wishes.

A year ago I took my then 2 year old BLNR to RSC Toronto because it was running fast. They had it for about 3 weeks to regulate it. When I picked it up, they had polished it as well. Never did I expect that they would do a polish on a watch which was in for a regulation only. It came back looking brand new and I was actually happy that the scratches had been removed, so it was not an issue for me.

From the pictures, your watch looks great and not over polished. I wouldn't let it bother me since the watch now looks brand new and you got a free service. But I probably would not deal with that AD again.

There are a lot of kind members giving you good advice. They are also people on here who are going way overboard. Don't be overwhelmed by this the whole thing is out of hand. You did the right thing going to an AD to compare with a new one if it looks good to you then ok. You could take it to another Rolex Service Centre for their opinion. You then have a choice flip it (you wont loose much if at all) or keep it. What ever you decide to do you need to be happy with it.

what I would do: demand they switch it for a new one (they won't). If not then sell it without wearing it (someone will buy it since it's freshly serviced and looks new) and by yourself a new one with a big discount from that AD

I agree with the OP that the outside edge of the lugs are not as crisp as when new. That might really bug me. But that can be fixed as well by a skilled jeweler. Sorry you went through all this.
