I like Patek, but Day Date is classic and robust. Not sure i'd call Patek the latter, but that's just my opinion, so really depends how you plan to wear it and for what activities.

This is so hard but I have to go Patek.
The DD is technically a bit more versatile but who cares, rock that PP with shorts and a t-shirt!!

Tough choice there but I would do the DD. Plus you save some cash on the back end!

I love the 5205 because of the way the information is displayed, easy to read and you don't have to read a bunch of subdials. I know I am late to this party, but I vote Patek (and I love Rolex. But you can always get a DD).

Patek. I own the 5205R black dial and is it amazing quality and class IMO.
DD is also great, but it is very loud in RG and YG - DD is much more versatile in WG with blue dial. |

Congrats on the day date! You made the right decision. Most PP are boring at least in my eyes And I’ve owned several. I think you’ll get more joy from the day date. You can wear it with a bathing suit or a monkey suit if that’s your thing.

Well, you never actually own a Patek...
To me this choice is so dependent on what else you have in your collection. Neither are really a one and only watch in my opinion so hard to say. |

Well all. I bought the PP 5205 today from a trusted seller in Houston. I fricken love it. I appreciated everyones input. Given my collection and that owning a PP was on my bucket list I went in this direction.
Im locking it up until my birthday nest month and will post pics then.' My plan is to buy a DD next. Hopefully very soon. Thanks again! |

I can't believe we're comparing these two watches. Patek by a mile. But you posted on the rolex forum so you'll get some DD lovers. Post it on the Patek forum and see the results. Good luck.

If too much bling is a concern, a 36mm day-date is pretty darn under-the-radar these days, as many competitors are 40+mm. Might be an option for a substantial, water-proof watch that does not attract too much attention. If attention is what's desired, then the sky's the limit. I had a Patek calatrava yg with crown guards (can't remember the designation), and it was a special watch. However, no hacking seconds. Unacceptable to me for a high-end piece. Just my 2 cents.

There are few watches I’d choose over a DD. That Patek is one of them.

I would not usually move past a Rolex DD and that DD is a beauty but in this instance the Patek 5205 trumps it.

“However, the ur-Day-Date doth not hide its light under a bushel by mimicking steel, whether with platinum or white gold... The downside? The downside is, oddly enough, identical to the upside. If it is not in your comfort zone to wear a wristwatch that is instantly recognizable to a surprisingly large fraction of the Earth's citizenry, in good light or bad, from half a city block away, this is not for you. People who have never worn one often say that this watch is a violently noticeable display object and I'm here to tell you, they're right.” |

I think you made the right choice with your Patek, congrats!! As to what some have said, assuming you have already a sports watch or two in your collection, I’d 100% go for the PP as well, it’s just on a completely different level. You certainly lose the ability to wear the watch in a pool or more intense physical activity, but don’t feel that the watch is made of glass...
I had my PP perpetual before I had any sports watches and I wear it almost daily, including traveling (it’s been on me while walking the Great Wall) and even things like hiking (nothing too crazy though). Hasn’t missed a beat. Also on scratches - considering it’s on strap and in white gold, scratches will show considerably less than the RG DD, if you care about that sort of thing. Honestly I wouldn’t, wear it and enjoy it, scratches can always come out. The leather strap is of high quality, mine is in great shape even after two years of wear. Best thing is, you can easily buy more if you want to change the look or if it becomes damaged and it’s only gunna cost you a few hundred |

If your appetite and budget allows them Patek all the way for the truly special watch. Im always fond of my trips in Switzerland when I see workers in hard working relatively low paid jobs like busdrivers and bakers, wearing Datejusts (although typically bi-gold). The president just added a date. It's a low key watch. Patek is Patek.

DD is the true all-gold piece. Gold all over including the bracelet. If it is not for you, you can get the Patek but go DD first.
