I would offer him an 'ideal' price and then let the negotiations begin. If there are scratches on the pieces I would point that out to him. I would not let him buff them out.

If at the end you are able to get 15-20% off, that is a good deal. See if he can ship to save tax.

Well, I just sent an e-mail to the store manager asking what kind of deal he might be able to offer. I'll let you know when I receive his reply. Thanks everyone for helping out :)

I would be surprise if he replies back with a discount price. ADs don't like to talk about discounts especially in print where it can be traced.

Amen, I heard that.

I am by no means rich but am doing a few things around the house to keep a few smaller local businesses busy. Also to all the Californians out there. Why not go by a Maglite they are made in Ontario, Ca. I just bought another… every little thing you buy that is made in your home town will help out.

You have to call or go into the store. He's just going to email you back saying let's talk on the phone or something.

I have a better idea why dont you go to the sales forum put a WTB ad state exactly what you are willing to pay and put your contact info.I am sure you will get a responce from more than 1 person.FYI Tire kickers don't get offered real final discounts etc.Sending him an email is not the way to crack a deal.If he knows you post in forums he might walk away altogether the last thing he wants is 1 of his customers telling the world they got a big discount at so and so. Walk in there pull the watches out lay down some cash in a very discrete way and wait and see. This is how I seperate the tire kickers from the ready to buy crowd. We can talk discounts all day and all night and if I throw in this etc.Lay the cash down so he knows you are for real right now or else forget it he knows you are tire kicking. No checks no AMEX VISA etc.You will then and only then know if the seller is ready to sell and he will know only than that your are serious and ready to buy.The rest is talk.Good luck either way.

I agree that you need to discuss this with the AD in person

Smart man, though they are more expensive here and not a direct comparison.

Call him and say that you are coming in and to have an offer ready. Be prepared to counter.

I did, and I understand. I still would have thought he would have responded to my e-mail. This is what I wrote:

Tim, thank you for your time yesterday. I really appreciated the opportunity to see first hand and up close the Daytona, Milgauss LV and the DSSD. I believe you mentioned something about putting together a package for all three. Wow, what an idea! So extravagant in today's world, yet so enticing! I guess my question is, what kind of package can you offer me? This is a big purchase for me, I'm not one of those over-paid rich attorneys that I am sure frequent your store. I'm just a local attorney in a small town, trying to eke our a living for my family.

So, when you have a chance, please let me know if there is a deal to be had.

Thanks again, I enjoy and appreciate being a customer of your store.

Brian: what a decision! Just remember: in tough markets, those that are well positioned expand, not contract. They'll never get any cheaper.

Wow.. I really want to see what kind of a package deal you can get..

However, I would not recommend buying three watches at the same time.. unless you really really want them and know that you are going to be wearing them for a long time.

Anyhow... if I were you, I would take the daytona at 10% off, Milgauss at 20% off, and DSSD at 30% off..

Again.. even with those discounts, once you wear them and try to sell any of the pieces, you will be hit with depreciation too...

Brian,

I would not give the impression of being overly anxious and let him get back to you. Wait a week before calling him to confirm receipt of your email.

If it does not work out the longer you wait the less the pieces will cost IMO. I do not believe the market has bottomed out yet.

Sounds good guys! Thanks for your advice and support.
I'm sure glad that this is not a critical decision in my life; just fun one.

The critical decision comes when he responds with the price!

I think the fact that there is a daytona on the table and the responses, if I was in your position, I would secure the 1 watch that you really want and talk turkey with this guy, I would not be surprised if by the time you get to a discounting decision the daytona and poss mil is off the table. Many people have read this thread and may take the decision out of your hands.
