Coronavirus is just an excuse to cancel a show that was going nowhere. Rolex was getting lonely there... As for the future of the watch industry, If ever they have problems it's their own fault. Lack of availability in a luxury market is the best way to kill a medium tier brand like Rolex.

I’m sure that canceling the show and in particular the rescheduled date was not a unilateral decision. The Swiss governments decision to ban gatherings of over 1k people for now with possible extension beyond mid March was clearly in mind. But I’m confident to say that they would not have gone ahead with the new date without consulting with the shows two largest remaining brands who are arguably keeping the trade show still beating. I would be surprised to see the whole range of new models advertised this year by either brand. It may just be an announcement of 1 or two new pieces for 2020 to keep excitement up until 2021 but I don’t really think that’s even necessary given global demand for these brands.

Clearly if brands announce anything new it will most likely be through Instagram

Looks like we won't see new Patek models thiis year due to COVID-19. Should we expect the same from Rolex?

Patek Philippe postpones introduction of 2020 watches

In a note circulated by a regional office this afternoon, it says that Patek Philippe Geneva has informed them that, due to the deteriorating global Covid-19 situation, we will not launch the new models in April this year as initially planned.

Patek Philippe has always held back its launches until the opening day of Baselworld, which would have been on April 30.

In the absence of that trade fair, it was expected the 2020 watches would be launched on the same day at smaller regional events. That will not now be happening for either retail partners or press.

There are no additional details, other than that people will be informed if there are any future updates.

No, we shouldn't.

Rolex will release their new models end of April.

That is hardly a confirmation. Bottom line is nobody knows and it will be highly dependent on when Rolex re-opens its facilities.
