I would’ve just smirked at the rep and told them “I’m not. That’s why I’m looking at Breitlings.”

Probably hard to get a discount in a neighborhood whose residents include Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Ballmer, and about a dozen other multi-Billionaires, not to mention countless regular millionaires. No offense... but you might have more luck driving down to Portland Oregon they dont have a state sales tax...

I’m petty enough to buy it in this situation and list it immediately on as many places as possible with his business card and the receipt attached.

This really is quite pathetic I feel embarrassed for you. You are upset because you didn’t buy the watch you wanted after trying to avoid the tax. He may well of been rude to you but so? Get over it. It sounds like you are just bitter because you didn’t buy the watch, he’s annoyed because you’ve been on a waiting list then not paid up at the time of collection. You should try living in London, being rude is common practice in any retail store selling anything!

Come on mate, you e-mailed him saying you’re “going to post about your experience on multiple forums”.
It’s petty just brush it off. |

horrible experience and i hope the end result turns out to your favor.
however, when you brought up the discount/sales tax, the owner was calculating inside his head and..... let's say the dealer's cost of the SD is $7,000. MSRP $11,700 + tax $1170 - dealer margin $4,700 OTD $11,700. Price of the watch $10,636 + tax $1,064 - dealer margin $3,636. The difference would be $1,064. No wonder the owner was angry. |

Rolex selling idiot by the name of Mr. Steve Goldfart Rolex IS NOT anymore an incredibly strong brand ...it used to be Clueless marketing people and petty bureaucrats will destroy the marque When you asked about a lower price ...he should not have said absolutely not ...bargaining is in mr. Goldfart’s DNA ...so he should have shown good will and say something like...We are not allowed to offer a discount, but I will give you this beautiful Parker pen as a gift ($10) ...that’s how a closer talks, creates a smooth transaction ...than build a wall.! About him being a champion of state taxation etc...do not believe a word A note about Rolex today Sadly Rolex is not the company it used to be In 1969 I sold my first Rolex ...working for an authorized agency I still sell them today ...but I am totally disgusted with the way clowns in Geneva are mishandling production, deliveries etc ...and not to mention pricing ...in 1969 you could have bought a steel Submariner with 2 average weekly salaries ...lol...look what the price is today....more than 12 ...if you can find one ... |

Sounds like a total over reaction.
Had I been the salesman I would have explained that a discount on the watch wasn’t possible due to the brand. If he had been smart he would have said that if you bought some jewellery with it he would offer a good deal on that. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Maybe there’s a reason that guy has an SD and DSSD in stock and available. ;-)

Not sure why you are so upset? You were trying to get a discount and avoid taxes which he was not accepting. The AD probably has other established clients that pay full price an does not haggle. It was not polite by the AD but from his perspective he probably knew that he was not going to sell it at a discount so did not want to spend more time on this.

Sorry you didn't get your new watch. Plenty of other shops to try!!. No need to get too upset though. There are some rude people in this world once they establish you're wasting their time, whilst you're after something that they can sell in a heartbeat.
Nevermind there will be more opportunities to spend the money I'm sure! |

This all sounds extremely unfortunate.
However, and not to discredit the OP, we only have one side to this encounter so cannot make a full balanced judgement. It would seem strange for a business owner to have a product there available for sale, and literally kick that sale out the door for essentially zero reason. Bad day? Maybe? Or maybe the OP rubbed him up the wrong way. We weren’t there so will never know unless the other party give their side |

As with most things in life, I’ve found that cultivating relationships is a) relatively easily with a little effort, b) leads to better results when you want/need something, and c) is more personally rewarding than viewing life from a transactional standpoint. You’re talking about a $10k watch purchase...regardless of my bank account status, I’m probably not buying from/expecting to buy from anyone I haven’t met a few times (give me a decent run in Vegas and I might change my tune at the boutique.
The AD game isn’t always as conspiracy theory background check/bundle-only as it’s made out to be. A little time invested can go a long way. Just general thoughts; not a condemnation of OP. |

There are always two sides to every story, as a Rolex AD he probably gets fifty calls a day with people after a SD43 and DSSD and in the best interests of all genuine Rolex customers he is trying in his own way to check your not a flipper as he clearly wants to sell the watch to someone who genuinely wants it - hence the questions about why you want it.
He obviously already had suspicions about you being genuine and wrongly or rightly came to the conclusion you weren’t - when you asked for a discount on a watch that sells above retail on the Grey market that you were fortunate to have been offered in the first place he probably thought enough is enough. I agree perhaps the AD owner could have handled you better and shouldn’t keep interrupting but in his defence he was just trying to establish you were genuine and not a flipper, unfortunately you shot yourself in the foot when you asked for a discount. Buying a sports model Rolex these days is a bizarre experience as you almost have to sell yourself like a job interview and we expect it to be the other way round which is what were all used to. |

I personally think that going to Rolex and complaining about this is a waste of time. They will say that these are independent business people and they do not control their sales tactics.
However, if you want to hit the AD between the eyes, complain to the BBB. No business likes to have a complaint record in the BBB. The AD will get a copy of your complaint and will reply. Often the business gets back in touch with the customer to rectify things. Also it will cause him to lose some business because consumers don’t like to deal with vendors with bad BBB marks. |

Sorry to hear about your experience, it should always be a pleasant experience buying a luxury item.
Unfortunately some people forget that everyone has to start somewhere and there is certainly better ways to deal with the situation. As mentioned earlier, it would be balance to hear the owners reasoning. |

Second to insinuate that bargaining is in his DNA is a racist comment. The name Goldfarb is a Jewish last name, and for you to say that, is way out of bounds, especially in fact what is going on in the US and around the world now with African Americans and other minorities. All people bargain with vendors, especially jewelers, not just Jewish people. I think a retraction on your part is in order. |

I crave coming across people with arrogance like this guy lol. I’d definitely walk out without a watch in my hand but at least I’d have a little fun!
Sucks that you had this experience. Some human beings just don’t have the intelligence or personality to communicate effectively with other human beings without flexing authority and ignorance, Almost like a chimpanzee. Hope you find the watch you’re looking for! There are some fantastic ADs out there with incredible people representing them. |
