A L&S up/down

Ever since I saw one in person at the boutique, I was smitten.

Outside of Rolex, my next piece is the Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921. Can’t decide if I want to pay the premium for platinum or not.

I purchased my 126655 as my grail. Full PM, beautiful case design, legible, oysterflex, glidelock etc etc... and now I want another grail... I feel this "Grail" term is a misleading one...

Great question.

For me, before I retire - and before he retires, more importantly - a Roger Smith Series 2.

YG Sub 126618LB.

But before that I want to wear and enjoy my steel and TT watches first!

I'll weigh in from the bottom, looking up.

Knew of Rolex Subs as unobtanium since the late 60s/early 70s. Owning one was about as likely as landing on the moon.

Was a USN submariner beginning in the early 80s, coveted a Sub, not do-able on the pay.

Wife gifted me my new Sub on the occasion of our 25th anniversary. It was, and is, a life defining moment.

Now 15 years later my Sub is my favorite material possession ever.

But I'm wanting a Daytona.

A grail for me is an item once unobtainable that enables the drive to attainability.

I don't have a grail. I just don't feel getting into one particular watch that much. If I like a watch and can buy it, I do so. If I like a watch but it's not obtainable, I forget about it.

When this came out, I definitely classified it as grail territory for me

For me, Patek and Lange often come to mind on grails, usually with perpetual and/or chrono complications. Very nice to have a watch where you struggle to decide whether the dial or caseback gives you more pleasure to look at.

Within Rolex there are several pieces on the "in pursuit of" list, but there's time, hopefully...

[QUOTE=thlax;10976177]Platinum Submariner

Hopefully i can look back at this post in a decade with a platinum Submariner on my wrist,
Laughing to myself about the time I predicted the future.

Honestly I've gotten to my "Grail" 3 or 4 times and times changes and feels change I change life changes and it's no longer a Grail. I thought a Smurf was my Grail before. Love love love it but not the end all be all. I thought owning a patek was my Grail. Nope. I thought owning an AP15202 ST was my Grail. Nope. White Daytona's ? Nope.

But in-between almost every watch listed about and in my signature i almost ALWAYS get a Submariner. So to me honestly, I just want my Sub (whichever one it may be at the time....I thought it was a last batch 114060 from 2020 but then I got offered the first 126610 SubDate from my AD.

Obviously purchased it. Took it home for a.week. Studied both intensely and decided on keep the 126610 for various reasons in the end. (Could only afford to keep one of them at the moment)
