I have a dozen nice watches, including Rolex; more than enough to rotate; none of which I want to part with. So, I'm now into acquiring vintage pieces that run poorly or not at all, to tinker with and hopefully get running well. A fascinating, frustrating, educational, and fun new hobby!

I´m not bored with Rolex or watches in general. What does bore and cheese me off is the ridiculous circus and shenanigans that has come to comprise the Rolex “customer experience”. As I won´t play disgraceful AD games, won´t pay the shocking grey market prices and won´t buy used I am resigned to probably never being able to buy a brand new Rolex as I did in 1996. Anyway, I love my faithful, tough-as-nails old 14060, and it will definitely outlive me! And as has often been said in this forum there are loads of other good brands out there…

It sucks to not be able to ever get the watch you want but I still enjoy buying the models I can get. I get bored when I don't have anything new for a year. But as soon as I get something new, the fun starts all over again. It's a vicious cycle.

At this point I'm bored with the pandemic and politics. Thank you Rolex for giving me something interesting other than what's going on in the world...

I'm not bored of Rolex but bored of lusting after Rolex.
I got my first Rolex in 2013 and didn't get into the hobby until 2018 which was absolutely the wrong time. I got a very good deal on a 16550 which I love last year. Probably going to purchase a Speedy this year and a base model Panerai after that. Going to simply put purchasing a Rolex on the back burner and maybe come back to it another time. If you gave me a very high or unlimited budget, I know exactly which watches I would buy but I also know it wouldn't make me happy and would honestly be too many watches for one person to own. |

My first thought when I saw this year's releases was, "I wonder if they will update the Milgauss next year"
Looking forward to 2021 releases |

I must say the "Rolex look" is getting a bit "long in the tooth" for me. The primary variations are bezels and face colors (green!!), with the exception of the Sky Dweller and a very few others. Still enjoy them but others just as much or more.

Learning new interesting facts about Rolex watches is always interesting! Never gets boring.
Constant talk about value of watches and flipping strategies is dreadfully boring. |

It may and it might not. As one poster said he was experiencing watch fatigue in general. This maybe true for me to. The main difference is that I was a Rolex fan boy. In my eyes everything they did was amazing. Don’t take me wrong guys, I still love the watches, as can clearly be seen from the choices of the ones I own. Lately how trendy the watch is becoming is starting to make the watch no longer Fly under the radar. That’s a turnoff to me. I can tell you my three literally sit in the vault now. Hermes does it, Porsche does it, Cartier does it....its not new. There is a huge movement in the watch industry that's solely out to profiteer as mechanical watches seemingly have made a huge surge in popularity. It comprises of "influencers, youtubers, flippers/resellers(not grey dealers), and internet trolls". TRF has some great members, a great resource for Rolex info, you just have to weed through the waters and try to ignore the crap as much as you can. I would say that for a customer of Rolex who's been around the brand for many years it must be a shock to make an attempt to purchase. It is however, a luxury item, Rolex is moving upmarket even more, and as such it is a business tactic that works. As buyers we have to acclimate to this new strategy. Sucks, but it's what it is. An average person with $12k and a big heart cannot walk into Hermes and purchase a Birkin, such is life, if it were city water or milk..... |

I started collecting in 2012, and over the last 8 years the hobby is not the same anymore
The passion ebbs and flows but the frustration only grows with Rolex |

Do I find the "hype train" boring? Yes, but for me it is the attitudes of the people on the train I find boring. But that has no effect on my view Rolex as a brand, or the sub on my wrist. Both are the same as they always were. Harder to get, but still the same. Stay safe.

Got sick of Rolex from around 2015 until about 6 months ago. Now the crazy is back in my brain.

I am not bored with Rolex but unlike many others here I have never aspired to own ALL of them. I currently own around 15 mechanical watches and too many of those are collecting dust. As I approach retirement I think I will trim the fat and new watch purchases will come much less often. I do want one of the bright dialed OP41’s but nothing else in the line is calling my name.

I am not bored with Rolex. I love the history of the brand. I am bored with the AD games. In the past the only thing keeping a person from going to a Rolex AD and leaving with a Rolex was having the money. Hans Wilsdorf's credo was that anybody that wanted a well made watch and had the money could buy a Rolex. Now you have to have a dealer relationship.
I will never be tired of the watch hobby because I enjoy all watches(from the high dollar PP to a $25 Timex) so there is always a watch out there I am interested in. I go to thrift stores once a week. If I see a watch I like, I will buy it. Whether it is a $3 1970's Timex or whatever. If I like the watch I will buy it. |

The whole deal is different now that watches are rare and not available. I own the Rolex models I want and also picked up some Panerai as well. Begging to buy a $8-9k watch is not appealing to me. I did just pick up a Tudor BB Bronze in black and am looking forward to some wrist time. Honestly I have been spending time getting into road cycling and been putting $$$ into that for a change. Lots of fun.

I am quite full and satisfied. Each one brings me something and above all pleasure. I take advantage of the ones I have, and there are enough of them not to bother me and to run well. Now say i'm tired of rolex, no, because it's still a passion. I sometimes think about adding a Daytona, but no use of the function, that's what holds me back, but it's still a beautiful object so one day maybe... What is tiring is what is around, always the same subjects of value and availability, the people rather than the brand.

I've had my ups and downs with the brand, not due to the quality of their watches which has always been excellent to me, but because of the poor AD treatment since 2017. I've made my peace with the whole distribution situation and I'm content with my collection. I don't mind so much not being able to get more Rolex watches, it's not like I need them anyway.
Maybe it's for the best. Once can appreciate the hobby without necessarily having to buy the latest and greatest all the time. It's fun just to be here and be able to talk about watches. |
