Do you prefer no date or date on a Rolex watch?

It depends on the watch. I’d rather not have a date on my Submariner and Speedmaster.

However, my next watch might have a date; especially if a get a Datejust (obviously).

Weird on my end. For my Rolex’s, I want the date complication, but ironically I don’t use it very often. When I’m rotating watches, and my GMT or date just go dead, I wind it, reset the time but not really the date. On occasion I’ll reset the date. For my none Rolex watches, I prefer a clean, no date look.

Btw, I'm not saying it's a bad thing if you don't like the Rolex design langauage. I just wonder why you convince yourself that you like the brand when it's signature style is not to your taste....

Frankly can’t go wrong with either date or no date sub. You will try to love it. If not it’s an easy sale for even to profit like I did.

So half of the catalog doesn’t have the cyclops. Cyclops is a signature Rolex design but that doesn’t mean all Rolex’s have to have one and missing without it. Personally I don’t like the cyclops, it catches dirt around it and raises the height. Plus I never trust the date on my watches as I don’t look often and consider I may have not correct after ending of 30 day months. SkyD is different as it is an annual calendar, but that is a tough watch to sport daily and for me it would be a rotation piece that it would be hard to set date every time the reserve dies.

The original iconic sub did not have a date. That is it's history. Either way a great watch.

I'm in the no date camp. I prefer the cleaner dial and no cyclops. I am in the habit of checking my phone, computer or wall calendar for the date.

This is true but the Sub wasn’t born perfect. It was perfected with the 1680 as a design. That’s the real start of the modern line and the icon (ok 5512/5513 need mentions too!). I don’t count any of the pre-crown guard versions as design icons. They were part of the development of the design icon. And, as I say, it was perfected and the brand reached its peak with the 1680.

I've always preferred a no date style which is why I bought my 114060. I love my Deepsea & think it would look even better if it did not have a date on it. Just a personal preference, I feel it looks cleaner with a classic look.

I would say depending on the watch. Some watches do like nice with date and some just simply looks cleaner without a date.

Some of my favorites watches, explorer, BB 58, Sub (no date), OP 36, speedy, do not have dates, but a date is almost necessary. Throughout a day, I look at the date as much as I look at the time. I’m slowly selling my no date watches for ones with dates. It’s unfortunate that I require a date as I get older because I miss out on a lot of good timepieces.
