I love my 116500 white dial on a black Rubber B strap as it matches my white BMW Z4 M40i in white with black top perfectly. The word Daytona in red on the dial also matches the red interior. What can I say? I am a petrol head.

The Daytona is a nice watch but I'd only take one if given to me or if I could get it at MSRP both scenarios that aren't likely and if the latter it would have to be a white dial, as it just looks so nice to me.

I also like that new Zenith chronograph, looks pretty sharp, as well as the Tudor chrono

The speedmaster is nice, I have one and like it, but while a chrono I think it is a different style than the Daytona due to the matte dial and overall look.

A few months ago, visiting San Diego, went to Zenith AD there and really really wanted to buy the Zenith Chronomaster if they had it. Thought it would look as good or even better than Daytona in person, as the pictures in various magazines and online made it look absolutely beautiful. The young lady working there said they don't have one to sell, but there is one reserved for a customer and she brought it out for me to see and try on. Nice of her really.

After seeing it in person, neither my wife (her daily is 116520) nor myself liked it nearly as much as a Daytona, and honestly didn't find it 'worth' the $10k or so retail price.

I have recently added the speedmaster to my collection, and seriously loving it. That has a completely different feel to it relative to Daytona. Yes both chronographs, but nothing alike.

Wait, there’s a Zenith AD in San Diego? Where?

I think the Daytona is a great looking watch; especially when viewed at computer monitor sizes. It's impressively technical looking. In person I find it a little hard to read, the chrono function inscrutable, and the screw down pushers excessively fiddly. It may be the nature of trying to integrate a timer function into a watch but there is so much effort expended on this function that it interferes with the primary function of the watch (telling time). It's the reason why I like the timing bezel of the sub. You can use it to time something and it does not visually interfere with trying to tell the time.

The Sky Dweller does a great job of integrating a complication that doesn't interfere with the primary function of telling the time.

Given the self reported low use of the chrono function I just have trouble with a design that takes over so much of the watch.

I never did "get" the Daytona until I got a Daytona. And then got another one.

It sounds like you don't like the look of chronographs; nothing wrong with that. For those that do like chronographs, the Daytona is one of the better sports chronos available. There are better values, however.

This forum has become like the movie, Groundhog Day! Same rambling non stop. Not sure why people love the opportunity to just pop off and let us know they don’t like Daytonas. First, you’re not ever getting one unless you buy grey which that certainly isn’t happening. Second, stick to your TT DJ or black sub.

Zzzzzzz. Are we having this conversation again? If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. I enjoy mine. Please enjoy yours. Cheers 🍻

Daytona is the perfect blend of elegance and sport. It is a manageable size but wears well, it’s a got a robust movement and it’s aesthetically pleasing to most. Daytona is the perfect watch in my opinion and the hype is justified. There is a reason you can’t get one at retail since the early 2000’s.

As a car enthusiast and watch collector, having a Daytona is a must. I chose the 116500 with white face. Great watch!

I don't get how one can't see that Daytona is one of the few iconic watches. Your view is right to an extent, but Daytona remains my favorite timepiece ever.

Over busy and reminds me of Mickey Mouse from some angles. What am I missing? Is it all hype and people jumping on a bandwagon? Can't be, help me out, is this just eye of the beholder? Fair play to those who like em and have em.
I first saw a Daytona in an authorized dealer’s window when I lived in Singapore in 1992. I wasn’t impressed. Mildly interested but not that impressed. Then I saw one on someone’s arm. More interested. Then I tried one on and became very interested. Then I left Singapore. Fast forward to Japan. After seeing the stainless versions in shops and on arms in Tokyo, and after a few years of going to this board, I visited Singapore, tried on a stainless Daytona, and it all came together. My dilemma wasn’t whether to buy the Daytona, it was choosing between the white dial and the black. I chose black. Later I changed to the white. Now I have the ceramic white and a gold 116528 from 2006. Honestly, in my mind the hype is justified. From a design standpoint, it is different, at least to my eye, from the rest of the current line of Rolex watches. It’s all down to personal taste, but I went from not getting the hype to the Daytona being my most treasured Rolex model to own.

Everyone has different tastes, in everything, not just watches. Owning and wearing a watch is supposed to be fun. On this very forum someone wrote, that he spent a fair amount of time at he's local AD, showing and discussing his new G Shock. Apparently, the sales associate loved watches as much as this gentleman did. If you love watches, it doesn’t mean you have to love every watch and want to own it. I really love watches and have since I was a little guy, but I don’t love every watch I see. I’m so very lucky to own the watches I do, and so are most others on this forum.

Personally I found my dislike for the Daytona waned when I was able to finally get my hands on one. I also found that before I owned one I was able to come up with a lot of reason why not to own one but after owning one they've all gone away. I really love the Daytona as one of the best Rolex watches. I love the size and fit. I love the symmetry. I love the movement and its reserve. If only there weren't so many hurdles (cost) in owning one, I'd own more than the two I do.

X2. I officially probably purchased my final Rolex watch with the SS Daytona Panda. The comfort and wearability with rock star looks puts a big explanation mark on my watch collection.

The Rolex Daytona is my favorite watch, but after 4 years of not getting a call from the AD and not wanting to pay grey market prices, I decided to purchase an Omega Speedmaster and don't regret it for a second. Looks great next to my Sub.

I have a Speedmaster and a Submariner too. Great combination. I love the Daytona too, but honesty, unless one is sitting in the display case and available for purchase at MSRP, then I’m just not interested in it. The Speedmaster is the only chronograph I need.

i find it a little small, and would prefer a 41mm. The speedmaster by omega is an amazing comparison at 6k. Also an icon and a nice piece.

I think that it’s an amazing watch. If I could change one thing it wouldn’t be the 3,6,9,12 sub-dial, it WOULD be the sub-second indicators on the main dial. I really wish that there were 3 ticks between each one. So that including the second indicator, one had 0.00, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75. As the movement beats at 28800bph, or 8 times a second, that would all one to read the time better (in theory) when timing an event. Omega changes the indicators for the Speedmaster as the new 3861 and 321 movements beat at different speeds. Throw in the 4,8,12 while at it too then. :-)

But it (Daytona) is a beautiful watch with so many dial options. People should be happy...
