Truth is, no one notices or cares about watches at work.
I'll add in life no one noticed or really cares. It's only on watch forums do people think watches rule the world..

On the world cruise the ship was weighed down with old folk in Rolexes . From panda Daytonas to yg bluesy loads of datejusts mainly two tone so you know they've had them years down to lady dd. I reckon there was well over 100 wearers onboard.

As far as I could tell only me and a guy I met from Glasgow who was a watchmaker/ dealer noticed.

With further perspective he said his wife has a PP but never wears it and she's not interested in watches..

All of us were defending the job we do (we routinely set records across the company for profitability objectives, etc) and he made the comment “I’m just telling you there are more Rolexes at this table than at any of our other stores’ management meetings.”

Message received. I don’t wear my JC to the office anymore unless it’s a weekend when he’s not around and usually only when I have long sleeves on. I’m actually looking at getting a VC Overseas Dual Time because ironically it costs double what my JC did, but because it’s not that iconic Rolex diver watch I don’t think anyone will even know what it is.

Plus when I’m wearing an inexpensive piece I can compliment a client on their watch no matter what it is and it can’t come across as an attempt to “one up” by bringing up watches.
That’s a crappy way to manage people. It is a good way to drive your highest performers to your competitor.

He could easily have said the same thing a different and better way:”I love that there are so many Rolexes in this group and I want each of you to be able to buy another one but our costs are accelerating so we need to raise our top line targets so that you can keep earning at a high level. Let’s hit the new target and then go watch shopping!”

I’m an anesthesiologist in a USA trauma center setting. A few times a year a wear my extremely rebellious YG DD 36 meteorite dial with factory diamond bezel. I’ve had a lot of positive comments, and only one “Why would you wear that here”? comment. To the latter, I said “Have you seen my colleague Carly’s engagement ring”? LOL!

Whenever anyone comments I always say that they are making really good fakes these days. Often this is followed up by a shared laugh.

Would have much rather had your meeting lol but it’s how it went so for now my JC is my day off watch and gives me one more reason to look forward to my weekend. The perceptions that can get attached to Rolex watches are quite interesting. That’s the strength of the Crown I guess!

I know from personal experience that an anesthesia Dr makes $10k per minor incident (cat bite.) Sure the hospital and insurance take their piece of the pie, not sure how much. But I'm very glad these people are paid well!

In all our meetings at work, we just focus on the subject matter at hand and not what watch people are wearing on their wrists. I know. It's crazy, right?

Was always a bit self conscious wearing my flashy Pepsi BLRO in the office. I just bought a 1999 Polar Explorer II for my office watch recently. So under the radar and cool enough that if a watch enthusiast were to notice it would probably only be a positive experience. Felt like I was missing a part of me not having a watch on at the office.
