To me, under the radar means that it might be mistaken for something worth about £20 instead of £2000 not something mistaken for £20000 instead of £40000. |

Yeah, you're right. I'm (re)realizing that under the radar makes no sense with a sub! A lot of people commenting just means a lot of people commenting. I'm at a resort having longer form conversations. What I'm wearing has opened the door to talk to folks about their pieces in turn - other Rolex, AP, Citizen, Doxa, Squale, Breitling, etc. It's a lot of fun for me in real life. The worst part is the judgment I've been getting on this forum actually. But that's my own fault for a lazy first post without any context etc

I think its ironic your worried about people assuming your watch is SS but you refer to it as the Smurf. I would think that if you wee that anal about everyone knowing it was WG you would also refer to it without the nickname and use the reference number.

You're right! If I wanted to be a purist about all things watches, and be a fully consistent human without trace of hypocrisy, I'd go for the reference number in that spot. For whatever reason, I never really prioritized that aspect of the hobby. Appreciate your input

Stealth but correcting people?
It is an extremely rare event when someone comments on my watches. It has happened, but typically, people never comment on my watches.

To be fair a "regular ss sub" is probably harder to get from an AD than a WG Sub right now lol.

Just enjoy your Smurf and definitely enjoy life…
No one really cares about any of our watches except us and potential thieves…

Well this is another great topic that I could discuss for hours Do you think people are not commenting because they are not noticing? I wore a Seiko Sumo with a rubber strap to the Caribbean once. Got a ton of comments on it. Way more than wearing any Rolex to the same island. Made me think, is the Sumo just more comment worthy than the Rolex?

Those buying WG should _expect_ to have it be mistaken for SS. That was your goal, right? (Right? ) Don't come here and complain that some subtle detail was missed You bought the watch because it has greater "heft", remember?
Now my CHNR was recently mistaken for a TAG. A TAG!!!! That's worth complaining about! |

Great point! I’m not sure how much I value the heft aspect at this stage. For me the color/dial is reason 1,2 and 3 at this point. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I agree, I never have understood the stealth idea. I wouldn’t get that much extra satisfaction, knowing that it was white gold. Or knowing that it was gold of any kind. I would not want to get steal and pretend that it was white gold, but, I don’t really see the purpose of white gold.
When really the only difference is whether it is gold or steel, I really don’t see why I go with white gold. Forgive me for not understanding the point of a $30,000 gold watch, but I feel like I would want people to know if I bothered to spend an extra 20,000 just to make it Gold |

Could you not have hit him on the side of the head and asked him if he could feel the extra weight of the white gold? And then maybe rained notes on top of him whilst he lay on the floor?
