Yes good points..but would just like to reiterate even though I gave up 4 to get 1, it was same market value. Just so happened that the one I wanted is 1.6x msrp and highly coveted and the rolexes not so much. I will add that I got MORE in trade than what I paid for each (except the SD43) which is always good. End of the day like others have said, if you fallen out of love, why not trade up for something that floats your boat?

Let's see some more trades! Some really good ones in this thread so far.

I totally agree - what’s the point of having watches gathering dust if you don’t wear them? At the end of the day, this hobby is about passion and sometimes make no financial sense

OP - I think most people here (on TRF) have a problem with the fact that, a) you've traded Rolexes for something that ISN'T a Rolex, and b) two of the Rolexes you've traded (the Daytona and the 116619LB) are seen as grail watches by many.

What a lot seem to be missing is that fundamentally you've traded watches (that you've said you don't wear) at pretty much their market rate, for a watch you now DO wear, at pretty much its' market rate.

At the end of the day, the most important thing is that you're happy with your collection, so I say congrats.

Ouch would have never done such a trade but as far as you are happy with it, it doesn’t matter.

My stupidest trade was a full yellow gold 2022 Daytona PN dial for a 2019 stickered RG YM 40 on youster flex + a 2007 Kermit but hat to pay 2k € on top, dumbest trade ever but I had a very bad experience with 2 burglars trying to steal the Daytona so got really scared and had to get rid of it, wasn’t thinking clearly tho.
Anyway, just last week I re-traded the same YM and Kermit for a rose gold Daytona black dial on oyster flex, still had to add 2k on top, possibly still not a great trade but I’m much happier with the Daytona now so it’s ok

To the original poster, I completely understand your willingness to make that trade.

I personally would not have done it, since I love gold Daytonas and Submariners, but I get it. When you fall out of love with a watch or a car, it is better to get it out of your collection and replace it with something that turns you on more.

You only live once. Enjoy!

If the OP is happy…good for him! Congratulations!
I’ve made crazy trades for the sake of trying everything I want to try in the Watch world. Everyone has their own preferences, thoughts, tastes, goals, etc…
Thank goodness!
I believe in quality over quantity, and trying everything I might be interested in.
It’s my own journey, passion, hobby…and hopefully everyone else is enjoying their own journey.
If I don’t bond with something, or just don’t wear it after some time, I’ll move on and try something else.
To each their own…enjoy life!

Glad you're happy with your trade...

For me seems like when I'm playing poker & I call a $10 bet with a $100 chip. I get a bunch of chips back, but it's still less than what I had (unless I win that pot, lol)

I like the trade and honestly, if they weren't getting enough wrist time, good riddance. I've recently traded a Pepsi and a Explorer II for a white Snoopy Speedy. My thought process was similar, I can always get a Pepsi or an Explorer, but the Snoopys are limited and getting harder to find...

There's an interesting information-asymmetry in these replies.

If we (admittedly) simplify the responses, there are two groups:
A) Terrible trade.
B) Good for you.

I think if the OP were to post again in three years and say that he did precisely the reverse trade: that he traded-in that Patek (because it wasn't getting wrist-time) for the gold Sub and gold Daytona (+ IWC), and you interviewed people from the same two groups, then I think the responses from both groups would be:
A) Excellent trade.
B) Good for you.

In other words, there's no information from Group B: they will always give the same response. But there is information from Group A.

Or maybe that's unfair, and that Group A are watch-biased, while Group B are wrist-time-biased?

Am conflicted.
On one end I dont like the idea of the pieces traded for the single Patek. On another end, the last two years of my life has shown me life is short and not worth accumulating things you won't use. If they were no longer of taste to you, then the trade makes sense.

Great watches. Congrats

My «stupid» trade?

A 116519 ghost + Nautilus 5712g (on strap) for a 5712a bracelet.

Do I regret it? No way! Every time I put on the 5712a my heart beats fast. And I can´t stop staring at it. Didn´t have that feeling with the two gold watches.

Follow your heart and feelings. The money is the same, the value will go down or up, if its Rolex or PP.

All those amazing watches for one Patek? On a rubber bracelet? Never.

Higher price points but more interesting watches IMO…
But the OP is happy with his decision and that’s what it is really all about in this world, so good for him…

The 5168G is a nice watch! Congrats on the trade. Only wished you could have kept the blue sub. Both WG, blue dials together would have been perfect.
