Thanks, as you notice the bezel has a very vivid color, it's not matte therefore I thought it would look good on the watch

Fantastic model you're sporting there. Quite agreeable statement,

Just got my 16753 back from shop with new dial and bezel insert. Also pictured is the new dial with original insert. Trying to decide which one I like best as well as considering an all blue insert with gold font. I know it won't be for everyone, but I'm enjoying this piece getting a new life.
Also, this is my first post, so take it easy on me! |

Sorry, I should have stated I was aware that the part is "custom" (after market, not original), so you are correct. The GMT original serti dials only come with rubies and I prefer the look of the sapphires, as seen here. Of course I kept the original nipple dial in order to put back to original if necessary. However, I'm never going to sell my watches so I'm just enjoying this one with this look for now!

Hey, love the mod. Where did you get it done? I want to get my polar explorer hand painted orange.

Dont know if would be considered modified or a crime! 1st Rolex bought on Monday ('99 GMT Master 16700). The bezel was in such good condition I didnt want to cause it any pain so stripped it down and ceramic coated it. |

Can you explain ceramic coating. I'm not sure what that is?

^ This pretty much. It also adds a minute coating of gloss. This stuff is what I coated my motorbike panels with and is extremely tough going.
Unfortunately I returned that watch as it was not keeping time whatsoever and upgraded to a newer model which is a ceramic anyway negating the need for further coating :) |

PS: Tried to edit but couldnt ... Just as mentioned above if it works well on cars protecting from the elements, tree sap, bird droppings, bad cleaning practises using dirty sponges etc I reckoned it would be a help fending off further damage to the paintwork of the bezel coming into contact with clothing etc.

Actually looking at half these moded watches they look entirely like cheapo ones you get from Thailand markets. LOL. Take a look back a few pages the inserts/pips/dial markers and lume application all rubbish. |

How fortuitous to see this! My humble '78 SS DJ is at RSC (Dallas, TX) to repair an erratic date wheel. While it's there would it be possible to get AR coating on the cyclops? Or is that a pure custom request? My near vision isn't the greatest and I'm particularly troubled with reflections on the cyclops. Yeah, I know what the date is. Usually...

Sorry for the potato cellphone quality photos. But here are pics of my 14060. I removed the pearl, painted the triangle red, and reinstalled the pearl.

I added endlinks to my 16570 and put an appropriate NATO strap on it. Thinking of doing a date wheel mod in green to complete the theme. Maybe red to match the 24h hand. Hard to know.

This is a funny thread......does anyone have the picture of someone on the forum photoshopping the Explorer, I think, into a "heart shape"? I remember seeing it one Valentine's Day.
