I follow the following rules. 1. Never dry wipe the gold (or steel) polished surfaces to remove smudges with a cloth of any kind. Leave it alone until you can properly clean. 2. Always rinse with water and use dawn dish soap and a soft brush or cloth to clean 3. Pat dry with a normal bath towel

For 21 years now, I wear this Daytona out of the house and when I return, I wash it with a mild soft soap and pat it dry with a soft towel or microfiber cloth. Looks pretty good for the age I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Nah, I use this old makeup brush. It's much finer than a toothbrush and won't scratch polished gold provided it is kept clean. Even your fingerprint grooves could catch debris and scratch mirror gold, so yeah over time it is of course a losing battle. That said, dry wiping is the main source of destruction from what I've seen. A sleeve does the same thing so keeping the watch and sleeve clean is the best that can be done.

Thank you for your replies. I guess it wasn't something I was expecting. There isn't anything major going on, but once I noticed them I became a lot more concerned that maybe I was doing something wrong. I have never had a gold watch before, so it caught me unawares. In the meantime, I have just gone on wearing it as normal, but if I suspect I might have a day where it could be potentially scratched up a bit more I have been wearing a different watch, usually my SS Sub. In the meantime, let me add a few pics for the day.
When I got this Daytona I picked the black face because of my black car. I thought it made a nice match. PDG |

Just leave it alone until you can clean it. Pretty simple really.

Looks much better in this photo Gary. Perhaps what I thought was some tarnishing was the lighting. Any 20+ year old watch that isn't a safe queen and looks as good as yours or mine is always impressive to me. Cheers!

Any 116509, blue dial for less than the $40k MSRP, is probably a counterfeit… AKA “custom dial“. Chrono24 is full of that, for all kinds of watches!! Original blue dial with full set? Usually ~$50k these days. https://www.chrono24.com/search/inde...ccessoryTypes= I’m not sure that anyone answered your original post and I just happened to find it as I looked back through old entries on this thread. One beautiful watch, to be sure!!! (I call it the “John Mayer Jr.”, but I don’t know that this has caught on!). Just watch out for that word “custom” on any listing. Be careful out there!! The blue dial 116509 is a strikingly beautiful watch. Considerably less in-your-face than the green dial 116508 (which I also love); weighty on the wrist; and rich white gold. It’s my daily wearer. And it’s appreciated in value to boot. You can’t go wrong if you’re looking for a more subtle, PM Daytona with a gorgeous face and presence on your wrist.

Hoping to get a SS Daytona (panda) and join this thread in the next year. Been dreaming and thinking about it for months now. AD just got me a Cermit and hopefully Daytona is next. It is my dream watch really.

Anyone in the Bay Area that has a black Daytona? Would love to buy ya coffee and see a black one in person (you don’t have to take it off your wrist lol). I heard that it looks very good in person vs pictures. I have only seen the white one in person (5 just in the last few weeks alone). My preference is white but haven’t seen black yet.
