One of the larger ADs in Singapore called The Hour Glass celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2009 by granting all customers 30 months' interest-free credit for any watch purchase.

So a friend took advantage of this by buying the white gold blue Sub, which after 15% off the MRSP amounted to around S$33,000 (roughly US$23,570) or S$1,100 (US$786) per month for 30 months.

I'm not in favour of buying on credit, but I have to admit this did appear to be a good deal.

How do I pay? Always with a credit card and the full bill is settled in cash as soon as it arrives.

$33 K is about what I paid for my BMW - in 2001.

A good deal, especially on a purchase of that amount.
He was fortunate to also get the 15% discount off RRP.

I have found that most interest free offers tend only to apply if you
pay full retail. That's how they make their money.

Haven't BMW had 0% interest offers from time to time?

Yes, they gave the 15% off first, then divided it by 30 to get the monthly instalments, which is why the offer was irresistible to my friend.

I have doubts that anyone on here would admit if they used a credit card and are making payments...
It would defeat most of the people's wish to have a "status symbol."

I always pay my watches up front. Assuming I walk into the store and did not bring enough cash, sure I will use the C/C but I make sure I pay them back before their due date. In the years (not so many compared to most ) I have owned a credit card, I have yet to miss a payment. I guess thats why my credit rating sucks so much!!

Well I'm not ashamed to admit that I top my cash up with 'Store Loyalty/Reward Vouchers' that I've saved up over the year!!

Buying cash

Hi
I have bought 10 Rolex watches over the years from different AD:s and my experience is that you always will get a better price when you buy it with cash.

I financed mine, I had the cash but the dealer was offering 3 years interest free so I put the money in a high interest account and now pay monthly. The interest I earn feels like a discount. May even use that money to buy the next one in a couple of years.

I have, wouldn't have owned a Rolex otherwise, paid it back.

I will now walk around for the rest of my life ringing a bell and shouting "Unclean, unclean" just in case anyone comes in contact with me, and find that they are strangely drawn down the credit route, and their lives as a consequence, ruined.

Nice one Dave. How do I pay for mine? With my wages!

I put down about $1200 at the AD, then walked across the street to my bank and put $4000 from my savings in a one year CD and borrowed that same amount for one year to pay the balance on the watch.

So, I got a loan, a CD to offset the loan interest, a credit boost, since I don't use credit cards or have any other debt, and an Explorer all in one day.

It worked for me and as someone else noted, I beat the price increase by a hair.

Of course, I did pay interest on the loan, but the loan payments were reflected on my credit rating, whereas the Rolex price increase would not be.

Cash, I quit smoking and I waited for the sum of 1 pack/day for 2 years to reach the price of my sub date and then I bought it.

I could have bought it at anytime in between or before but I wanted to quit smoking and needed a nice reward at a point when I felt safe and smoke free.

It has now been 5years, 11 months, 19 days, 13 hours and 48 minutes since I quit, but who's counting.

My wife and I bought our first Rolex watches a couple of weeks ago from DavidSW. We went the paypal route which allows us to get a bunch of points on my card and then we paid off the card on its due date.

I have a TT DateJust Turn-o-Graph with a gray face and my wife got the TT Datejust 26mm with the diamond black face. We absolutely love our watches.

I am already trying to decide on my second Rolex. I am leaning towards the Explorer II with a white face and will either pay cash or charge it to my credit card and then pay if off immediately.

Same here - as has oft been said, it's nigh on impossible to get a discount from Rolex ADs in the UK. But this approach protects me from price rises and allows me to earn (a steadily declining amount of) interest on the value of the watch over 3 years. Seems sensible to me.

Exactly, some people seem to misunderstand the concept of free money.

BTW, is it the actual stores who does the no interest financing for you guys??? There's nothing like that here in Finland, but maybe good, because I would definitely get me a 20K+ Rolex then.

Cash on the barrel, that's what I always say. The pain of dropping my wad goes away faster that way.

I think the only time I'd finance a watch is if I could get it 0% financing and no hidden fees.

Yes, it is the dealer that you finance with.

As I and others have said there is little or no discount for immediate payment so why would you put down cash ?

My first one cost me £50 a month interest free.

Put down £4000 cash when you can use their money, that is just.......
