I don't think anyone else even noticed my post.

Why would a watch be referred to as "boy-sized" if it wasn't intended for a kid?

Instead of you getting it for him, why don't you make your son save up for it? It'll teach him the lesson of saving, and instead of getting it now at 13, it'll take him a couple of years and he'll get it at a later age.

Wait until 16. I'm 15, I chose to keep my nicer watches for home. My Invicta 8926C, Tommy Hilfiger and Kenneth Cole stays at home. I have a cheap watch, I wear to school.

I could have handled a rolex at 13, did I get one...? -No!

Something like a rolex is better appreciated later in life. Get your son an Omega.

I don't; I usually rotate between a Tag and Vintage Omega and a Casio (when I have gym because I need to store things in my locker). The Rolexes come out on the weeked, and only when I'm with an adult.

In my opinion, it comes down to the personality and the activities of the child. I don't play any sports, and even if I did I'd have the common sense not to wear them.

If you go get your son a Rolex, I would suggest holding it for him on the weekday and letting your son wear it on the weekend.

If Rolex even called it a boy sized watch then I don't know how it could be misconstrued. Oh yeah I forgot about all the elitist Rolex owners who act like some people aren't good enough or old enough to wear a watch that is the same brand as theirs. I wonder what Hans Wilsdorf would say about this thread? Or better yet if he would give his son a Rolex?

I'm not "elitist" at all.

I have a thirteen year old son that regularly scratches the crap out of his G-Shocks & IMO that's the way a thirteen year old boy should be....

He should be more concerned with climbing the tree & jumping his bike off that ramp & tackling the big kid from the other school that everyone else is afraid of.....
He should be more concerned with all that than he is with wether he put his Rolex in a secure place or not before he saved that penalty or scored the winning goal.

& Oh yeah......

I wouldn't want that big kid from the other school that he just brought down mugging him for his Rolex either.

Hi guys....

I'm 12 and I own 4 Rolex, that my dad bought for me. My favorite is my White Gold Sub. My 6 year old brother is starting to like watches, do you think it would be alright to give him one?

At any age below 35, something like a Rolex should be earned by hard work.

I would rather buy him a nicer watch such as PP 5970. The return will be better than starting a college fund.

I think that for most posters, the biggest concern of whether to get a 13 year old a Rolex is price. They are saying to buy a cheaper watch. Cheap and expensive are relative terms. I would not get my 13yo a Rolex, nor would I get my 19yo one, because for me it is cost prohibitive. I am having enough trouble sorting out my own first Rolex. But for some at a certain socioeconomic level, their children having "expensive" things is probably the norm. They probably live and school in an environment where theft would not be a problem, and if lost, probably given back. Now, if this describes you, then I see no problem giving him a Rolex. I only hope that one day through my endeavours that I am fortunate to gift my children things like this. I also believe in parents taking the responsibility to teach their children certain things about life, if your children don't know the value of a dollar and importance of working towards things and maintaining their belongings, its not their fault, its yours. Despite the marketing hype about the crown and achievements crap, a Rolex is just another brand of watch.

I'm not one for taking sides..... but in this case I am on Lisa's

I loved watches from a young age..... My uncle had an Explorer... man I loved that 36mm SS beauty... Now that was a boy size watch....

My point.... Maybe I love Rolex today because of that early exposure to a fine watch... just not sure I would have worked so hard to finally own one if one was given to me back then.....

:-)
