sub and suit
if you look at the great fashion stylists, from fred astaire to ralph lauren, they always throw something discordant into the mix. the james bond example, with a tux, is just that.

Yes, but it's really all in the shirt cuffs. Pays to have your lefties a touch wider than your righties...

Given the fact that Rolex have the Cellini range and also the several watches they offer on a leather strap, I think it's uninformed to simply say "don't wear a Rolex with a tux". I saw a white gold DDII that had been put onto a leather strap at an event a few weeks ago. I don't think any one can say that doesn't go with a tux .... DD/DDII/DJ/DJII/Air king (fluted or smooth bezel) on a leather strap would be the good choices from the sports range imo. Otherwise a cellini would be great too. For me a dress watch (for a tux) should have a light face, (white, cream, silver etc.) and be on a leather strap. Also the dial should be simple and not cluttered which is why I don't think the Daytona works. In an ideal world it would be a precious metal. That's why for me the DJ/DJII fluted bezel along with any DD on a leather strap is as good as it gets from the Rolex sports range. Then again I have a SS JLC Reverso and plan on getting the smooth bezel DJII and a strap to go with it, so I'm not even following the ideal with my own dress watches. |

Sub goes good with suit if you keep it in your pocket. There is no rule that you have to wear a watch with a suit. Why look like a rube?

Black sub looks elegant, so it's a "YES".

Remeber, Rolex is the standard by which other watches are measured. Thus any Rolex, from the humble Air King to the aristocratic Day Date, is proper with any suit. It is the quality of the watch, not the metal of its case, which gives it a universal wearage. Go ahead, wear your Sub with your suit. It displays love of quality when combined with a tailored suit. Look at many world leaders, Many wear Rolex, with of course, the current occupant of the White House being a exception.

So after reading all these threads, there's no real consensus. Wear what YOU think looks good. I don't wear suits much, but think my TT sub looks fine when I do. Haven't worn a suit since buying the DSSD--probably a huge fashion faux pas to try that, eh?

A Sub with a suit looks fine. There are other watches that might be dressier but I wouldn't worry about it.

Without getting political...I believe the last several presidents / vice presidents did not wear Rolex. Most wore plastic casios to make them appear less wealthy.
