It's my impression that the Sea Dweller always wore a bit smaller than the Sub so I'm not surprised at your experience.
Both are great watches, though. |

Wouldn't change a single detail. The stepped end links make sense on the wrist, too. Which is good, because this watch is definitely for wearing.

Very much liked the pictures of the SDC. Went to my local dealer wearing my sub C. My immediate impression of the watch was that it wore much smaller than I expected. The date bubble on the sub C contributes to it seeming bigger. The "blocker" case adds to this effect. The dial of the SD c was less matte than I expected.
My initial reaction was surprise. It was less like the pictures than I expected. Overall I did not like the watch as much as the sub C. This came as surprise to me. I preferred the 16600 to the 16610. I think that this is difficult watch for sub C owners to evaluate. I would have to wear the watch for a week or two to know how I really felt about it.The sub C sets up visual expectations that are disappointed by the SD C. I suspect that the SD C would do likewise to the sub C if it were worn for a while. At any rate I will not be adding it to my collection or swapping it for my sub c. When it comes to watches I don't believe in scratching where it doesn't itch! Things are bad enough without doing that. |

For the price, the look and the differences, IMHO the 16600 is the hands down winner over the new ceramic model.............

Interesting. I find most watches today too big...
Almost thinking of trading my AP Diver, simply because of it's size. I'm sure "smaller" watches, say 38mm or so will soon be in fashion again.

When the Sub was debuted 50+ yrs ago, 40mm was a "big" watch, today it's actually considered almost mid-sized (at best average sized, but I don't know ANYONE that says 40mm is "big") and most consider 38mm and under to be a "small" man's watch. I just don't see "small" becoming a fashion trend (at least not from a diameter standpoint). Cheers! |

I finally saw a SDC a few days ago while in Vegas. After wearing a DSSD on my 6 ⅝th wrist, I thought I would pine for the SDC, but that didn't happen.
Even though the SDC case is half as thick as the DSSD, and the raised SDC crystal has a beveled edge unlike its predecessor, the watch did not speak to me. The bezel did not rotate as smooth as a Sub or DSSD, and it wore small reminding me of the GMT-C I had for 6 years. The helium valve is smaller and not finished like on the DSSD; it appeared like it was titanium. Nonetheless, I might have had a different perspective if I did not have the DSSD experience behind me. I am sure this watch is perfect for many of us. Sheldon

Hey Sheldon, I'm sorry for chopping off most of your message, but you hit the nail directly on the head with that line. Since we are all individuals , there is no one watch to please us all. It all boils down to which watch sings/speaks to you as an individual to make you want to go out and spend your hard earned money. I hope to someday get the call from my AD and get a chance to hear the SD C sing to me and if it don't I will kindly leave it at the AD and admire it from afar. But I will also keep in mind that if I don't get that magical serenade , there will be many of us that did and to you guys I simply say, Congrats!

I'm honestly hoping I feel the same way, the Sub-C is 40% cheaper and probably a better fit for me...

I saw one yesterday at BB in Seattle if anyone is interested they have one. I've never been more let down by seeing a product in person that I thought I wanted so much.

I just tried on the SDc for the first time this weekend. I could not be more impressed. But that says as much about me as the watch. I don't like watches that are too big or blingy. The Sea Dweller is classic, old school Rolex with modern updates, such as bezel, hands, and bracelet. It's great to see a luxury-oriented company 'keeping it real' with the new Dweller!

The HEV seems to be the same HEV used on the old SD, and yes it's made of Titanium. The bezel does indeed seem to rotate less smoothly on the SDC than on the Subs and DSSD... personally, I think that's an advantage.

Agree, the too freely turning bezel was a legitimate concern & complaint about the previous ceramic diving models, i am happy to hear this has been addressed

I like almost everything about it except the crystal should have been flush with the bezel.

Now the high standing crystal is just one of the many things I really dig about the new SD... different strokes for different folks.
