no offense but just reading this post makes me laugh and shake my head at the same time... you sound a bit pretentious.its a SUB C- 6000-9000 watch at best. Its the cheapest watch rolex sells and everyone has one or know what one is, if you had a presidential on and got the type of reaction you described above I would speculate and say maybe you're just very concerned with what other people think but damn man where do you work? could this post be a bit exaggerated? being humble and sharing your hard works blessings to others less fortunate goes a long way and is a good way to spread awareness of a brand and not make someone feel uncomfortable and less of a person because they cant afford something.

If someone ever even asked I would say "sure man here yes its expensive but it holds it value! so really its a way to express yourself and enjoy what you have worked hard for and if you ever need the money you can either make money on it, or I can promise you that you won't lose much! go buy yourself one and enjoy it!"

ya never know it MIGHT inspire a person to push, work hard and have a goal.

Mine wouldn't know a Rolex from a Timex.

It is funny when you get reactions from people at work. Their 75k suv is totally normal but a 9k watch is absurd. To each their own.

Exactly! Fellow watch-lovers tend to notice. No one else ever does, in my experience (tho I grant that several posters are probably right that a lot notice but don't comment).

Of course! I have let so many people try on my watch it isn't even funny. I have a nephew that is 18 and he always begs to wear my Sub. My brother-in-law is around, he always asks to wear whichever Rolex I am not. I have let strangers try it on, good friends, family, etc.

I understand if you do not feel the same way, but to me everything is just "stuff". I have only had my new Porsche for about 4 weeks and I have already let 10+ people drive it. People ask and I normally say yes.

I'm sorry I sounded pretentious in my post, and I definitely wouldn't come to this forum to exaggerate what I experience. I only come hear for entertainment, to share my thoughts, and to learn along the way.

I work around professional folk that value their hard earned dollars, and some of these folks appreciate and recognize a nice watch when they see one. If you start your statement with no offense, typically what follows will offend. Just my thoughts!

Do any of you allow friends or colleagues to handle your Rolex?

I got my DSSD in Sept 08. I got a sub C in 2010. The DSSD was worn daily until I got the sub. Now it might get worn 5x a year. Many of my friends do wear it often. It was worn at my wedding and many of theres. I can't get rid of it bc it was a graduation gift. And means a lot to me. Thickness got on my nerves compared to the SubC and I have an 8" wrist. Great for short sleeves but not for long sleeves. I let one of my friends take it to Great Britain and another friend wore it in Cabo for 10 days.

No! The only people I allow to handle my watches are other watch enthusiasts - not necessarily my friends either. Strangers sometimes who happen to notice (or I notice theirs). When it comes to prized possessions all your friends are absolute a-holes!

Exactly. It's all just mass-produced stuff and insured, to boot. I've let multiple friends try on my watches and the few who've asked drive my Ferrari. Why not share the experience?

Glad you feel the same. My friends are also solid people, if they damaged something I know they would pay to have it fixed.

BTW, I'll let you drive my Cayman if I can drive your Ferrari...

Yep, this is also a key point. My friends have both the means and the responsible nature to instantly pay for anything they damaged - insurance likely wouldn't enter into it. In any case, I'm never emotional about stuff, but that's my INTJ nature at work. :-)

Sure, let me know the next time you're in Orlando and I'll organize an outing. My neighbor has a nice GT4 that he's let me drive a few times. Fun car!!

At first reading this thread I thought the O.P was being over the top about this. I don't recall ever being asked. However, there was a nasty incident I had at an A.D some years back. I had a rare and vintage Heuer SG 1550 and wanted it serviced and the second hand readjusting to 12. The dumb ass kid serving me snatched it from my hand saying " I can do that" with a beaming smile and infront of my eyes forcefully yanked the crown off! He thought it was like a quartz watch!! I almost dragged him across the shop floor. The manager sorted it all out, well sort of, but it was never the same. As others have said on this thread, don't trust or assume the AD staff know what they are doing with your watch.

No chance, never remove from the wrist look with your eyes not your hands, this happened 1 week old mishandled (not by me i may add) and landed on marble floor, £1,600 bill from Rolex.

Yes, if asked but I have only had a couple close friends ask if they could see it/try it on.

Uh, no. I let them take a good look on my arm. Most who appreciate these watches dont ask.

friends/colleges wouldn't have a problem. My friend asked about my watch recently, but was sitting across a table from me, making showing it to him awkward, so just slid it off and handed it over without a second thought.

Why not? In this part of the world a Rolex isn't that big of a deal. Every man and his dog has one.

This^^^^ it's just a watch. Maybe not a stranger on the street but certainly a business colleague.
